I found Spaten Amber Märzen at a small cafe near the Munich Hauptbahnhoff and Paulaner's at the Seehaus in the Englischer Garten -- both com Faß.

I was thinking more along the lines of cans of Brisk Iced Tea (i.e not healthy ), but I suppose you are right about that. The legislators had to draw a line somewhere, and it looks like they chose carbonation as that place. In that sense it does seem like Sly Fox should have known what was in store on that front.

Auto-correct is really starting to gripe me... vom Faß, of course.

The only place I've seen an amber maerzen in Munich was at the Paulaner Im Tal restaurant. I think they pride themselves on offering every Paulaner beer. At first I thought I saw their amber in bottles everywhere, but as it turns out, that's just the wies'n. They use the same branding of their pale version that we get for the amber.

    Bottle or tap?
Heh -- yeah, it's close, but slightly different. Reminds me of the stack of H-P Oktoberfest I saw one year, grabbed a 12 pack for a camping trip, and when I got to the site and cracked the case -- it was the Weizen! Grrr... need to be more attentive.

On tap. They have year-round draft Salvator, kellerbier, and roggen, too. The place has a weird vibe to it, but their tap selection is pretty phenomenal.

There's some on tap in Philly right now, well there goes my lunch break.

Enjoy! I'm still checking the posted growler station lists daily, and nothing so far.

@Streaky & @TongoRad I had two pints of Ayinger Maibock at TJs Everyday earlier this evening. That beer is a very tasty beer with exceptional balance; yum!:grinning:

    Cheers!

You mean their Weis'n or their actual Hefeweizen?

That sucks though, I wasn't fan of their Weis'n in bottles this past year (oddly enjoyed the can the year prior) or at their tent at Oktoberfest.

I had a Samuel Adams Octoberfest a few years ago on draft, it blew me away, but I have not revisited the style for at least two years.

Jack, this is great to hear. My local bar says it's "on tap", so I'm hoping they'll tap it tomorrow. Never had it. So far this year I've only sampled Hofbrau's offering.

The Hefeweizen -- and my friends with me on the trip hate Hefeweizen! :astonished:

I've never seen the H-P Wies'n here in the U.S.

Ahh, my bad. For some reason I had Paulaner in my head. Those are the bottles I disliked this year and in the tent. Geez, I need to stop posting after 11 and a couple beers.

I liked the Paulaner Wies'n okay, but Weiehnstephan's was good -- and Köstritzer, if you ever see it, is damn good.

Got to have a pint at Strangelove's in Philly this weekend -- delicious. The Michael Jackson vid is spot on when he said it was known as liquid bread, I gave a sip to my non-beergeek friend and he described it as tasting like unbaked bread dough.

At the finish there was was a subtle rauch-y/smokiness that I wasn't suspecting...is this normally a thing with maibocks?

Not to be short, but no.

Did they mention using smoked malts?

Eric, FWIW I did not perceive any smoke in the two pints of Ayinger Maibock that I drank.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the insight. I sell a lot of Victory at our stores. I have not tried any of their Oktoberfest beers yet.
