Wouldn't it be contradictory to age an extra Hoppy old Guardian as the hop profile would fade /diminish?

Nothing wrong with aging it. Think of Bigfoot (the most hoppy barleywine I can think of), which ages fine for years.

It drinks great fresh. But hey, if you have multiples, why not try aging it to see if it turns out any different than regular OG? Only time will tell.

What does the bottle say? Does it suggest to age, drink fresh, or both?

A friend and I asked the same question a while back. The majority of the responses told us not to age it. A few months is fine but after that, it supposedly loses it's hop character. A couple people claimed to have talked to Stone and gotten that answer but who knows. It is an amazing beer fresh.
