I also have some older Double Bastards, and now that I think about it I want to say once they get to be 7 to 10 years old, both the OG and the DB seem to taste pretty similar. I've never done a side by side between the two, but maybe that's what I'll do next...a 2006 OG vs a 2006 DB. Has anyone else found them to have similar tastes and characteristics once they get some good age on them?

So drinking these has taken a little longer than expected, but it's still been a fun project documenting it. Tonight I drank the 08' bottle and after this I only have a 2012 left. I'll also post a final closing type post once I've had them all.

    Vintage: 2008

Appearance: Pours very hazy, but once it warms up the beer becomes a very clear copper/amber. I am very surprised to see chill haze in a beer like this. I am not sure how proteins can react over such a long aging period though

Smell: Fairly muted caramel and fruit, lots of oxidation

Taste: Vibrant cherry and plum up front with a quick disappearing finish that is almost non existent. I think the description of cardboard is often over used for oxidation, but if it were ever appropriate it would be here.

Overall: Very much over the hill. It's hard to believe 2 years (from 2010 to 2008) would make such a negative difference, but it really does. There's a chance that production practices could have changed in that time, in return introducing less oxygen. If you have an 08 or older drink them now!
