What's the oldest PtE someone has had? I don't want to read about how someone had one that was two or three months old and they thought it was terrible because they're a turd like that. I'm talking about one that's old as sin, like one year plus past bottling date. Has anyone out there had one that sat in their fridge too long and decided to try it out? Obviously that's a silly question, because any length of time is too long, right? Either way, I'm curious as to how this one matures.

I had one like 4+ months old and I thought it was still better than many fresh DIPAs out there.

I guess this could include other (I)IPAs, but I'm mostly curious about Pliny.

Who is this awful person who introduced the world to sin a little over a year ago?

Last night I found one in the fridge that I had buried that was dated 10/13/11. Went right into a glass and it tasted fine. Certainly could tell it had lost a bit of depth but had no problem drinking it and hoping I had another in there somewhere.

Although I picked up some fresh Pliny (at least for Denver dated 5/4/12) yesterday.

If you let it go a few more months, it'll turn into a barley wine.

First one I had was a couple months out, it was fine. Biggest distinction for me was younger than a couple weeks, beyond that, I think it's stable for a good four months.

I had a Pliny that was about 3 months old and it had lost a large bit of its hoppiness. It was disappointing compared to the previous ones I've tried. Now I know why they recommend you drink it soon...

    2 weeks old?

A trevesty. A mockery of what Pliny is supposed to taste like. A travashamockery if you will (for the record my spell check didn't question that word so either I use it too often, or my spellcheck is awesome).

You should send those all to me for proper disposal.

I appreciate your concern. Give me your address and I'll get those right out to you. I'll also include some Heady Topper that I got this week that I was hesitating on opening due to freshness concern.

I've only had Pliny once. And it was over 7 months old. At this age it wasn't even close to the best DIPAs I've had. In fact, I wouldn't say it was good. It was just ok. It doesn't come anywhere near me so I'm looking forward to a trip to Cali later this year to get some from the source.

Your concern is valid. Heady Topper falls off upon hitting the can. If you don't drink it straight from the tank you are getting old and suboptimal flavors.

I have a bottle on my desk that was bottled in Feb 2011. I forgot it was in my office. Just came across it a couple of months ago.

Someone on the old site put up pics of an unopened bottle from the first batch (circa 2003? Can't remember)

Heady Topper only loses its freshness when it leaves the mouth of the can, which is why they implore you to avoid pouring it into a glass.

lol - they don't want you to pour because it is an ugly looking beer!
