Yesterday I was looking at labels for Old Rasputin and it looked as though it was a Julian date on the bottle. So I found a date converter online and it converted to something like May of 2151 or something.

The lone bottle that remains in my stash clearly shows 2/11/2016 which is why I'm feeling the need to replenish. Looked at North Coast's webby and I could find zero info on the date

The question is: how do I figure out when it was bottled? aaaand why would they change the format?

Not quite sure what "date converter" you used, but what is incorrectly called the "Julian date" by many here and elsewhere is simply the "Day of the year" - so it only refers to the "day/month" part of the date, 1-365 (366 Leap Year).

True "Julian Calendar Dating" is much more complicated, so it sounds like that's what your converter was.

Yeah, most brewers and other manufacturers add a two digit "year" before or after the three digit "Day of the Year" but there's no standard location.

I wish I had kept the tab open on my phone, but there were several more numbers than that... maybe those indicated a time of day?

Didn’t actually end up getting any because I was frustrated with that date... in retrospect, I wanted it regardless lol - not sure what I was thinking.

I’ll get some soon here and update the thread

An example of the string of numbers would be something like 8******1207, which translates to the first number representing the year, followed by several numbers which I'm sure mean something to someone, and then the last four digits being the month and day, for a bottling date of 12/07/18.

Thanks to @Argail 's review comments (link) , it looks like your bottle was packaged on May 04, 2021 (YBBBMMDD).
