I just picked up 3 of these the other day at the local bottle shop. I know, I know, a little pricey but I really love Old Rasputin and figured I would love the barrel aged version.

To the point, it has a cork top to it and was wondering how I should properly cellar it? Should I leave it straight up, or have it laying on it's side?

Thanks much for all of the info,

    Cheers!

Hey man, try to do a little research next time, I literally just typed a sentence into google and got this. I store all beer upright, except for lambics and gueuzes.

Drink that shit fresh. It's perfect right now. Unless you don't like bourbon (in which case, it's not the beer for you to begin with), it won't get better.

I think it ages well and is great fresh!

I really don't know of many Bourbon Barrel Stouts that get BETTER with age. If you don't like the bourbon flavor and want to age it out, you shouldn't have bought the bourbon barrel variety.

But to your question, store it upright or store it in a snifter and drink it.

I think 18-24 months is the sweet spot with BAOR, stored upright

You realize that your advice to store all but lambics and gueuzes upright goes against the article you cited, right?

Store it all upright, for the love of God. You don't want cork flavor in your beer, nor do you want to end up craving a bottle one night that you can't have because you stored it on its side and now you can't possibly pour it without dumping all the floating yeast and proteins in there with it. Then you have to put it upright and wait several days to drink it.

Thanks guys for the info. I bought a couple of them so I could drink one fresh then age the rest, and pop one open every now and then and see the changes. I have yet to try one, but I'm thinking next weekend sounds great.

"Happyhiker" The reason I asked was because of the cork. I know the page you have read, but thank you again for the information. I was not sure if you would get a cork taste or if the cork would deteriorate over time into the beer.

    Thanks again guys!
