They can be a bit hit or miss, but I have found the most gems at either Genes Packy or the Cordial Shoppe. good luck.

A&P across the bridge in Old Lyme is another one to check out. However most shops in this area are underwhelming.

Tonys in haddam isnt to far from there. I have never been in there but heard they have good stuff. I have been to steady habit brewing right in back. Jon, the brewer, also works at tonys and knows his stuff.

Yes this.... kinda was out of my head due to it being 20 minutes away from Old Saybrook but.... it is the best package store in the are for sure. Plus it has one of the best nano-breweries in the state in the back...

If you drive to Tony's you can hit the one in Deep River too on the main drag. Don't know the name but selection is decent. Tony's is very good.

If you're closer to Groton, can try Grand Wine & Spirits on Rt 1 / Poquonnock Road. There is a walk-in cooler in the back that expands the selection.

I guess they have a decent selection and low prices, but Bob is NOT a good guy.

Take the 15 minute trip up Rt. 9 to Tony's in Haddam.

Seaside Wine on Main St. is my go-to. Very good selection for the area and typical better than the Cordial Shoppe. Main complaint is that lately they have been putting SOS, Gandhi Bot, Captain's Daughter and even, dear God, Sea Hag behind the counter. That alone has almost made me switch to Cordial Shoppe but overall Seaside has a much better selection. A&P across the bridge in Old Lyme is great as well. Best selection of bombers in the area. Haven't been to Tony's yet but Jon the brewer of Steady Habit manages their beer department and I've heard they have a good selection.

Maybe we should start a thread on all the places in CT with a good business owned by NOT a good guy, so we can all avoid them. Let's start with Hooker Beer in Bloomfield. We can move on to a few restaurants, and then bars and on to packies.

Oh wait, it would have to be a whole forum.

CPS has fresh beer in coolers. Bob always ordered me a case of whatever I wanted.

Reviving this ... my wife and I are going to be in Old Saybrook for a night. Best place to grab a beer within walking distance of the Katherine Hepburn center? My research of restaurant/bar websites leads me to believe the answer might be "nowhere" but appreciate anyone's perspective.

Rabbit hole is where I go in OS. your not going to find anything crazy, but they usually have a couple of craft drafts, and a good bottle/can selection. Although I haven't been in a long time, things could have changed. you could also hike to 30 mile brewing, call to see if anyone is around, they will fill growlers outside of normal hours if they are working.

I'm looking for a place near Beer'd. Is A&P the best spot? I'm coming from MA, and heading back up 95, so don't want to wade too deeply into CT. I'd really just like to land GBot, Sea Hag or Captain's Daughter.

Yes Mystic A&P would be my choice. If they don't have Captain's Daughter then drive into Westerly and hit Dicks World of Wines.

How difficult is it to find GBot? Is it usually behind a counter?

Honestly, it's usually sold out and yes my experience has been behind the counter at A&P in Mystic

Not sure how this ended up in the Old Saybrook thread

On Old Saybrook, I'd suggest Penny Lane Pub which is up Main St from The Kate. Not a great selection but they will have a few good options. I believe they have 30 Mile on draft.
