Usually stay at either Hotel Vermont or Green Mountain Inn when I head up to VT but thinking about doing Old Stagecoach this time. Can anyone with experience recommend the best room out of 7, 10, or 12? Will just be me and the wife and either 2 or 3 nights. Thanks.
I've stayed in 10 with my wife and it was fine. It's upstairs and a separate entrance from the main entrance but still on the same porch. It has a fridge and a small sitting area which is a nice bonus. Haven't stayed in 7 or 12 so no help there. Highly recommend staying at Old Stagecoach.
First off, highly recommend that place! Great prices for the location and it has its own bar (the original bar when it was a horse stop, which stocks Heady Topper). You can walk to Blackback, which is the main reason I stay there. I have only stayed in room 7 (last year actually) of the 3 rooms you mentioned. It's on the 3rd floor, so a decent way to carry luggage, but it's next to small cozy porch where I've consumed Hill Farmstead beers (entrance to the porch is at the end of the 3rd floor hallway). Room is fine - large bed, but two single beds as well that you won't use. Private bath, which is key at this place (tons of shared bathrooms, which sounds very weird to me).
Also, they have an included amazing breakfast every morning - it has all the choices of a nice breakfast place, but it's included!
I like rooms 7 and 8 the best. I think room 8 is the room with the ghost stories (I've stayed in the room about 6 times and never noticed anything). These rooms are very large and comfortable. Its a great inn and great location. Easy walk to anything in Waterbury.
Room 2 is the "ghost" room with 8 supposedly having some activity, but I've also never experienced anything there myself. Actually just got back this weekend after 3 days there. Was our 3rd time staying at Old Stagecoach and we've always had room 8. OP, i believe 7 is similar to 8 and its a nice big room with a private bath. The central location, breakfast, and ability to quick stumble back to your room after dinner and drinks at the big 3 spots in Waterbury are totally worth it.
I'm just learning about the ghost stories. We've stayed in #8. Damn. I want ghosts. Though, admittedly, I could very well have been in a Hill Farmstead & Prohibition Pig poutine coma.
Thanks for the feedback - definitely ruled out the rooms with the shared baths right away - #7 is no longer available for the dates I wanted so I ended up booking #10.
