My friends parents used to be into craft beer, and they quit cold turkey years ago, and I inherited the beer.

Among those is 2 bottles of oaked arrogant bastard- from what I can see there is absolutely no bottling date. Is there any way to tell how old this is? Or at least some approximation? Does any one know how long stone has been adding a date to their bottles? So that I can know "oh its at least _ years old" just for my own curiosity.

Stone has been dating their beers for a few years now, though sometimes the printed drink-by date deteriorates quickly.

Open up the bottle, cross your fingers and happy drinking!

The date has probably worn off as you can rub them off very easily....

Stone is no longer releasing Oaked ab year round.. Going to be a seasonal thing starting next year..

While there is a freshness date for that beer, I personally would try it anyway. It's hoppy enough fresh to warrant a test of it mellowed out.

Check the embossed characters around the base of the bottle. Stone uses Owens-Illinois bottles, which can be ID'd by their embossed logo OI. Near that, will be last two digits of the year the bottle was manufactured, so you can get close using that (obviously, the beer could be newer, but can't be older that the year the bottle was made).

For instance, I have an old Stone 10th Anniversary Ale bottle, released in 2006 and the bottle is embossed with an "06".
