I have a friend coming down from Chicago next weekend and when I asked him what beer he wants me to have on hand, he said "Old Style". I'm pretty sure I've seen the bottles at Kahn's before, but I've never really looked for it so I can't remember where I've seen it. My friend will drink it out of any vessel, but I'd prefer to buy it in cans if they are sold here. I figured I'd ask here if anyone knows of a place that stocks it on a regular basis before I go on the hunt this weekend. Thanks!
ouch, that link looks like it helps find "great" beers. I'd start at wal-mart or the nearest gas station that sells beer...
Marsh gas 6 pack cans and most liquor stores carry either cases or 30 packs! Should not be too hard to fine
This turned out to be a bigger ordeal than I expected. I had to drive across town this afternoon so I left about 45 minutes earlier than normal figuring I'd stop at several places along the way and I'd find it somewhere. I stopped at about 6 liquor stores (Crown, Payless, 21st Amendment, Parti-Pak, and 2 Big Red Stores), 3 Marsh stores, 2 Kroger stores and a CVS and Walgreens. No luck. Parti-Pak carries the 30-pack of cans but they were sold out. I was surprised at how many clerks at the liquor chains had never heard of Old Style before. I decided to call down to SoBro Spirits and they had single 12 oz cans, 6-packs of 12 oz cans, 12-packs of 12 oz bottles, and 30 packs of 12 oz cans. I love that place. I hope I never end up going on another chase like that for an AAL ever again.
You must really love this friend. Obviously he can get Old Style in Chicago whenever he wants and further, if he drinks that than he'd be willing to throw down whatever swill you put in front of him...
Give A-1 Liquors on 52nd a call. Apparently some guy on yelp found old style there two years ago. Granted, that was a long time, but they still may carry it.
Usually on tap at Fat Dans deli at 54th and College also.....if you're looking to get it on tap at all.
I think it's all about him considering himself a part of Chicago. He lived here until 2 years ago and is now very proud of the fact that he lives up there. He's not a craft beer guy at all, but he did say that he lives within walking distance of Pipeworks. Thanks for all the replies, everyone.
