I see on the beer.org site that Old Tom beers are now in the US. Any opinions on their brews?

Is this the Robinson's Old Tom?

    No worries, just checking.

I love the original Old Tom what with being a fan of Robinson's and Stockport it's home is a good place to go drinking, I haven't had the two variants.

Fentiman's Gingerbeer that it is mixed with is a gorgeous and botanically brewed I love ginger beer but haven't had a good alcoholic version since the demise of Dobbins and that was specifically brewed.

Then there is the chocolate version this also I've not had, I've not actually drank a beer made with chocolate, I have a bottle of Meantime's chocolate porter so that is a bout to change.
I guess if that is half decent I'll give it a poke.

Like I said the original is a good solid strong/old ale with plenty of flavours and when it is served right on cask IMO it kicks Westy's bum bum.

good stuff, like I said I haven't tried the ginger version but the Ginger beer it is blended with is a really good drink and I have it when I want something none alcoholic (it does sometimes happen lol) have no idea about the Chocolate what so ever, so let me know how you go on.

I only bought the Original Strong Ale. To get my Ginger fix, I drink the Aussie one, Bundaberg.

Bundaberg? I must try that, they have it in my local supermarket.
Just trying to see if I can order some Zombie dust online, so far I've just given myself a headache and looks like ending in heartache

I've had the chocolate Old Tom and to be honest I wasn't all that keen. Structurally it was too soft and fuzzy and it tasted like someone had just dumped in a crate of basic plain chocolate into the brewing kettle.

Like Bevis said, cask Old Tom is a real treat. Mmmmm.

Have you and/or Bevis had it from the bottle?

Yep, I have. Not as complex or as lively as the cask version but still pretty nice.

I like Old Tom - a very nice strong ale. Never tried it on cask but it's good out of the bottle.

The chocolate one is a bit of an odd fish - I think it's OK, but the flavours don't mesh. It's like you're drinking Old Tom and chocolate side by side. Most chocolate beers use dark malts that complement the cocoa flavour, so by comparison this is an unusual beer.

    agree 100% on that one

however I know a few places where they don't clean out the lines and there the bottle is preferable lol

Tried 2 half pints of old tom at a beer festival. I regretted it the next day haha.

I just found out this is going to be distributed in Texas (the importers, Artisanal, have offices here in Austin). I'm so looking forward to grabbing a bottle or two off the shelf at the local beer shop. I used to drink cask Old Tom at the White Swan in Rusholme, but that was at least 30 years ago. I haven't had any since then.

Edit: Not Rusholme, Fallowfield. We called it Ladybarn.
