I've got a couple of bottles of batch 5 and 6 Blabaer that I just never got around to drinking (wanna try new things instead) and I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on old versus new batches of Blabaer. What happens to the fruit presence? Does it get more sour? Preference? How does this beer age?

My understanding is that fruit fades but Im real interested to hear what people who have had this aged vs fresh have to say

I've had batch 4 and batch 5 both from 2009. I like most fruit Cantillons (Fou Foune, Rose, Kriek, Lamvinus) with a couple of years on them but I actually prefer Blabaer fresher. I noticed a slightly metallic quality in the older bottle and the blueberry flavor wasn't as vibrant.

For the record, the Batch 4 I had was about 1 year old at the time of consumption and the batch 5 I had about 6 months ago (2.5+ years from release) and I much preferred the younger batch 4.

The problem for me is that IDK if I just liked Batch 4 better than Batch 5 or if this beer just doesn't age as gracefully as some of their other beers. Unfortunately, this isn't a beer that I will get to try very often so it's tough to gauge. Good luck, enjoy.

For whatever reason, I don't find Blabaer to be very 'fruity' when fresh. It doesn't really taste that much like blueberries, to me, either. It's probably the only Cantillon I don't mind with age since my favorite batch has always been one of the ones from '09.

Thanks for all the insight so far. I've had things like Rose and Fou Foune fresh and aged and while I like Rose fresh, I actually prefer Fou Foune aged as I like the apricot to drop out a bit.

Would love to hear more from others about Blabaer though!
