Old World announced today that they are closing. The reason is that they need some time to be able to go back to elementary school in order to learn how to compose a sentence and how to spell.

"Everyone .. OLD WORLD BREWERY IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED.. The We are no longer operating. any vouchers out there please call the issuing entity. I Thank all the loyal followers ans customers we has a very good run but market channel roadblocks exists for us and we were unable to overcome some mistakes in that regard.
continue to support the other local breweries and strive to make a Az a TRUE craft beer origination location.. Stop supporting Craft imports like they are the Beer gods and buy more Local.. too many times i here for certain types that Arizona breweries cant make good beer, Nonsense, we won 7 medals in 2013 alone. and many others here have also. Force your local pub to carry local and kick out others. if a guy has 6 handles and no locals blame the distributors they hold the key and are pulling the strings on who gets placement and who does not.It will only happen if the Customers make it happen, no bills in the state legislature is going to change the market. share more local beer with those who dont know, heck i did not know till 2009 when i started this thing..Its a bitter sweet ending for us.. but we worked hard, made good beer, got it packaged, got it placed in retail stores and some bars.. mostly by ourselves, its a accomplishment i am proud of.. i love the beer and the beer customers and all the people i met along the way, Cheers for now."

Someone needs to have a serious conversation with them, maybe sit down with some of these "beer gods" and compare them side by side to their beers. Hmmm..... what does Founder's Porter have that Dark Knight Porter lacks? on and on.... Though I agree that distributors could be doing better - such as pushing only the better local breweries and not pushing stuff like theirs onto the tap lines at respectable beer bars.

Breweries like Old World are the problem.

Breweries like Old World taint the "buy local" message and I think the supporting local movement will be much better off if it would be more willing to give out criticism when it is deserved. Old World and a decent sized list of other places are ruining the local scene with mediocre (or worse) beer and it takes away the focus from local breweries that deserve our dollars and enthusiastic support.

I'm going to have a few "craft imports" and bow down to their beer god status to celebrate this long overdue outcome. And it isn't just my assessment of their beers, or @bigbelcher , but look at their scores on the whole here and on other rating sites. There's a consensus. It's amazing they held on for so long, honestly. Plus the infected beers. Plus the health code violations. And then the attitude from some of the higher ups. Good riddance.

Here is what Zach Fowle had to say: Zach Fowle So I never posted this before, but I got an email from a reader a little while after the original article about OWB was posted in the New Times.

"I recently sent a friendly e-mail to Old World. I said it as a friend, urging them to think before they post, try to watch the grammar or have someone else look at stuff before they post it, and to quit mentioning you and the New Times. (They are obesessed)
    Here's their response:

'Dennis its Social Media..its face book, I am psychologically unstable, and I will mention the New Times and those hacks as long as i want,, I am also not afraid of them nor do I need you to be my daddy ,,Loose my email and stop reading my post, i know you think you are superior and would love to bill me a ton of hours to HELP me, But i can make enough beer, and my growth rate is beyond our forecast and I am sure facebook has nothing to do with it,

get a life and spew that idiotic nonsense somewhere else would ya, your clogging up my bandwidth. who made you the fucking facebook police?

    yours

    Patrick Fields
the guy who spent a million starting a beer business after he made 10 somewhere else.'"

    So, um, good riddance.

    My eyes are bleeding.

Seriously, that grammar.....I know 3rd graders with more capable writing skills. I am not pretending to be perfect, but if you are the voice of your business, then you need some serious help in it. Or get a PR person who understands that social media is an integral part of business.

It sucks to see a brewery fail, but if one is to fail, I rather it is someone who refuses help and succumbs to his own undoings.

Did I read that right, he discovered craft beer in 2009? Well, that's plenty of knowledge to run a brewery.

Nobody is going to be crying over the loss of Old World. I can't figure out how they managed to stick around as long as they did. I guess there won't be a blow-up castle at the Strong Beer Fest this year. :stuck_out_tongue:

He seems like he's really mastered the sort of patience and attention to detail necessary for making great beer.

Right? It's hard to fathom that his business failure didn't have anything to do with his attitude and lack of concern about grammar, etc.

It seems that he was always blaming external forces for any troubles he was having. That attitude still comes across loud and clear in that amateurish announcement. Ridiculous.

Look at the scores. Even with homerism counting in favor of local beers, as all local places have, the numbers are really bad. Overall scores in the 2.X range for crying out loud.

I can't stand his "Buy Local" affirmative-action crybaby whining.

Don't tell us what to buy. You don't get a free pass just because you're local. (I'm drinking a delicious Racer X as I type this).

So glad this embarrassment to Arizona is finally gone. We all knew it was just a matter of time. Their beer went from horrible to mediocre/just above a home brewer and they had the worst marketing strategy in the history of the life on earth.

    Fascinating.

"I'm a multi-millionaire who is so successful at making beer that I can't keep up production with our growth rate and forecast. Go fuck yourself, I am so incredibly talented that I don't need your business".

    Whoops.

    The humiliation.

I almost feel bad for the guy. Almost.

Well said. Hope you don't mind me borrowing that phrase, because it is right on the mark - the buy local as a sort of affirmative action.
