Imperial stout brewed with honey, aged in bourbon barrels, with cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa, and habanero added. Hitting shelves and taps soon. Eager to try this with the habaneros.
Did some digging and turns out we’re both right. Spectrum 8 is the same as the second run of Spectrum series, with that series resetting the numbers 1-4 instead of continuing 5,6,7,8
There's been Spectrum 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12. Much shit was given about reusing the numbers and I think the brewery team just didn't want to hear it anymore The second #4 (which should be #8 but isn't) is the Habanero/Chocolate one.
I checked with the brewery yesterday as I was in the area and they said it should hit the station in the next few days. Bummer that I will miss it unless it hangs around for a month :-(
I was a little disappointed with this one. Nice cinnamon start, chocolate and hot bourbon on the finish. Not much habanero. I love OH stouts but this isn't a top tier example from the brewery. Good not great.
I was actually the opposite. I really liked it and thought it came together as a whole really nice. It being a restrained, but noticeable, pepper heat is a positive to me as I like the pepper to be -a- flavor, not the only flavor.
Came and went really fast in the Triad area! Only got 1 bottle of this! Bought the last one at my local bottle shop on Friday.
Had a glass the other night. Definitely had some heat. My biggest complaint was mouthfeel. Thought it was a bit thin. I enjoyed the flavors though.
Looks like it got plenty of distro, sitting on the shelf and collecting dust out in the Raleigh area.
Finally had a chance to try a bottle. Pretty good, cinnamon forward, but not a lot of heat (I am a sucker for spicy stouts though) and a little thin. Doesn't quite remind me 100% of Spectrum 4, but it has been a while since I last had that one. Maybe I will have to do a blind side by side with a few folks.
Cracked mine open the other night. I'm one for heat too, so this was a little disappointing. I didn't even get much pepper flavor, more so cinnamon. Agree with you all on the mouthfeel. Maybe they'll read this and keep tweaking.
I'm just waiting for the extra spicy Mexican cake thats coming out. And I just made some homebrew with ghost peppers, much easier to control the amount of heat I want
I thought it was plenty spicy but mouthfeel wasn't like a normal EH but the adjuncts all shined great.
I'm with you, Trez. Lots of pepper flavor but doesn't dominate. To those saying it's thin: WHAT? Honey in the finish really moves it into a uinque space. Surprised (happily so) to find this in Raleigh still! (8/12/19)
