    More details to come soon.

    February 9th, 2019

Spectrum series of Event Horizon is BACK, and this year it's all about the wood. Don't know if they will be numbered 1-4 again... or 9-12, so I'll just call them A-D

    RYE barrel aged
    GIN barrel aged
    RUM barrel aged, w/mollasses
    TEQUILA barrel aged, w/agave

...then later that day Fonta Flora will have a release in Morganton featuring 3 variants of a collaboration stout done with Olde Hickory.

    Coffee, Vanilla, and Coconut.

YUM, YUM, YUM, YUM, YUM, YUM, YUM.

    Gin...why?

And they’ve done tequila before on draft. It was vile. The other two, especially the rye, I’ll definitely try

There will be the usual share on friday night from 6-9 at Brewery. Tends to be epic. And it's confirmed, the names are 9-12. I still don't know the name of the OHB/fonta brew.

I think it’s “Higher Form of Consequence” + whatever variant it is

Looking forward to these. Had Tequila EH on tap at one of their events (Omega Point?) and it was delicious! The tequila really changed the beer, making it far less sweet and almost indistinguishable from regular EH.

Yeah, not sure why one would waste a good gin barrel on a stout, but I will probably wait til these bottles hit distro and sample, they seemed to stick around quite a while last round.

The bottles won’t hit distro, however you might see a keg in the wild

Yes, but the bottles will probably be at the general store for the foreseeable future, at least the last Spectrum bottles were.

Got a feeling rum and rye will NOT make it to the Station. Tequila EH was the single best stout I've ever had from OH...had it on draft a couple years ago at a release. It was insane. That said, enough people will probably be scared away from tequila ba that it might get to the station. Gin for sure will.

I'd be surprised if they don't hit the station at all. None of the Spectrums have sold out day 1 (hell, Omega Point didn't sell out day 1). Though I do agree that those will likely be gone before tequila and gin are.

@treznor you think the volume on the tequila variant will be enough for that? I know tequila barrels are notoriously hard to age clean beers in. Also I wonder if they were able to source enough freshly dumped ones to match the volume on the rum and rye...my professional medical opinion is no:slight_smile:

General point - I have no inside information  @JdoubleA very well might, but no idea if we'll drag it out of him. ETA: Neither of us work for the brewery. He just knows more about what's going on at the brewery than I usually do

Traditionally all of the Spectrums have been produced in roughly the same volume as the other Spectrums released at the same time. My guess is that they'd probably at least attempt that for these as well. If there is anyone on this planet I'd trust to make clean beer out of a barrel, its Steven at OHB. I swear the man can talk to barrels. On the other hand, if he wasn't happy with it, it wouldn't be getting released. Soo... long way of saying I'm guessing they at least started with enough barrels to produce approximately the same for all the variants, but if he didn't like the beer coming out of some of the tequila barrels, its entirely possible it might be lower produced. But if he couldn't get the barrels he wanted, or in the right quantity, he probably wouldn't have made that variant...

Any reviews for those Spectrum bottles? Wasn't able to make it, curious how gin mixes with a stout.

The gin one almost tasted kinda like cola with an anise finish. Honestly I thought base EH is better than all the Spectrums this year.

Gin - Oddly my favorite as it was the most 'interesting'.
Rum - Slightly sweeter, I think this might be the most interesting to have a bit of age on it.
Rye Whiskey - Good, but I expected a bit more from the barrel probably.
Tequila - Not a fan, but still solid.

I'd probably agree that I like base Event Horizon the better than the variants, but I do really love EH

@treznor I also liked gin the best. It just works. I also dug the tequila quite a bit. Rum is kind of a softball because, obviously, it will be good. The rye has a fruitiness that I can't put my finger on. Like grape-y sweet orange peel or something. I like it, I just can't nail down what I'm tasting.

Fun to see what the base did in all of the barrels.

As to volume of each variant, I don't know. I would assume they would all be the same, but I could also understand making less of the more unusual ones to account for scaredy catz.

As to the potential of bugs, they plate each barrel and fast age multiple bottles of each to check for potential problems. If any were found, you'd never see it. For example, Red Shift... great beer, still drinking and aging fine after more than a year, but there was some gushing potential out at the artificially created 3 year mark, so they sat on it, and are still sitting on it.

And yeah, I also tried a blend of gin, rum, rye, tequila, and regular EH. It was a mess, but still good. WAY to much going on.

Did anybody get up to Fonta? How was that beer? I caught a stomach bug and didn't make it out of my house until monday.

Picked mine up tonight, haven't tried it yet. Heard it was solid though from some AWAS members.

Looks like the FF collab bottles are getting some distro now, so you should be able to go get them if interested.
