I'm assuming that it's for these three, although there isn't much barrel 61 from what I've heard. Also saw these other two labels while looking. The olde fashioned is delicious, but not sure when it's coming out. I haven't had the thallo.
I've never been to an OH release before. Do folks have any thoughts on how early I need to be there to get bottles and what lines are typically like?
-Who knows with this one. In the past it's varied. All depends on the numbers and style. Calico sold out, but not before everyone had a chance to grab what they wanted. Carolus stuck around, but eventually sold out and then hit retail and went for $28+. Wavell Gunn and Dread God are still available, but I think folks were (wrongly) spooked by scotch barrels. Pretty sure most of spectrum sold out, but people were able to go through multiple times. -That brings us to this release... all of the past ones have been high gravity barrel aged monsters which is what OHB does as well as anybody ever has. So the turnout was predictably large. This one is for sours, which still aren't as popular even in beer circles. Sure, the people who love them are avid, but most folks still don't care for them, even less so enough to line up for them. And, this being OHB's first stab at them may make some folks wary. So, in short, who knows how many people will show up? It's a mystery. Could be 50, could be 300. I plan on showing up at 9, getting what I can get, and sharing a couple beers after. -And I will say again... I tried the Flanders, and it's is great. ETA... I will also say you'll find their release method to be really smooth.
If you are close to Hickory, follow these forums. People usually post updates in here with the line size. But @JdoubleA pretty much nailed it.
Only 7 people in line at 7am. Looks like a few others are hanging nearby in their cars, probably no more than 15 total here so far.
Great release guys! So smooth. Of course I'm that misinformed snoot who was all like "ooooh I can test lindley park in this wheat wine" assuming that the had been aged in 3rd use barrels. But nope, its just got that complex flavor naturally. I swear it's got a chocolate bourbon raspberry thing going on. Quaint share (I didn't bring anything because I had to leave early) but I saw some heavy hitters. Props to angelina bringing some Lickinghole creek gems out of her cellar! Highlight of the even was Steven sharing a super ancient looking bottle that was part of what OHB put forth towards 2009 olde rabbits foot. Dat was great. As a huge OHB fan who had also partaken in the last bottle of prototype event horizon, this one made me smile inside.
I had a bottle of flanders over the weekend. Very clean and tasty for the style. Would have love to had seen this age even longer!
Had my first Wheat Wine since the event. HOLY BARREL batman! Just wonderful oaky, vanilla, and carmel. Still has a chocolate cherry/raspberry thing going on. An absolutely fabulous unique sipper. Great body, not overly sour, and complex as hell.
