From Michigan here, so we have a similar beer that has been released called hipster breakfast stout( yes stout not porter but close enough) It's a maple coffee stout brewed with bacon. I haven't had the luxury of having MBP fresh or old. Main question, how are older MBP holding up? Just gauging interest if hipster will do fine being cellared. I guess my biggest concern would be the fat content from the bacon causing it to go rancid with age. Any info or thoughts would be greatly appriciated!
    Cheers

I cracked open a bottle last week and though I'd heard a few people say MBCP faded and they suggest others wait for the batch new month, I thought it was drinking great and so did my buddy. Obviously, fresh is king but it was far from a shell of its former self like some here would lead you to believe. So yes, it dropped off some but really, its still drinking well a year later.

Note that, AFAIK, MBCP isn't brewed with actual bacon but instead smoked malts so YMMV. Or should I say, your beer may vary.

    Cheers and good luck!

(Also, perhaps @TheSamKuehn could add his 2cents?)

Well thanks for the response , much appreciated and boo to me for assuming it's made with bacon.

I have hipster stout on the way so I'll be able to accurately compare, but from what I've been told it's not even close and MBCP is miles ahead..

I can't confirm if one is better then the other since I haven't had MCBP but hipster is dynamite! Really want to gage how long it will last or if it will only get better? The real bacon thing is a throwing me for a loop.
    Cheers and hope you enjoy!!!

    JUST KIDDING!!!

I had some Odd Side Ales Hipster last weekend at Kuhnhenn courtesy of the very, very generous @Jas45678. Two completely different beers honestly. MBCP is a porter at 6.3% ABV and Hipster is a stout at 10%. Additionally Hipster is aged in bourbon barrels, MBCP is not barrel aged. Hipster was delicious and while the barrel wasn’t over the top, that is what I really appreciated…the subtle bourbon. My rule on aging is anything north of 8% I will consider aging but not below 8%. Beer should be drank fresh if possible, especially if it is under 8%. As far as MBCP at this point, 11 months since it was released in 22oz bottles, like Jerry said, I’ve heard stories about it being a shell of its former self and stories about how it is still quite fantastic. Personally, I would just wait another 5 weeks until they release it again and then trade for it. Any FL guys with or getting MBCP should definitely try Hipster and its sister beer Morningwood (yes, just like FB’s except it’s a stout and aged in bourbon barrels). Hope that helps. Good luck OP!!

Understood two different styles just assumed it was made with bacon. I should of read into the ingredients before assuming. Glad you enjoyed the morning wood as well. Oddd sides have had some killer end of the year releases with one more to come. Can't wait! Thanks all for all the input, hope I didn't let you all a stray with my assumptions. Though I'm glad there are some odd side fan boys outside of Michigan

Drank my last MBCP last weekend and it was fantastic. However, I did keep it in the fridge (~45F) rather than the "cellar". I didn't want all that flavor to fade and it definitely held up!

Popped one open at a party with friends a couple weeks ago. Kept at 65-75 degrees. Was by far the hit of the party. Great beer.

I had a bottle from last years release 2 weeks ago and it was still drinking nicely. More Maple than anything else as the coffee and smoky (bacon) flavor had faded, but it was still smooth and tasty.

MBCP is one of the best smelling beers i've ever had, I did think it fell a little short on the taste, but I also had it about 10 months old. But that smell though...

This is correct. Had Hipster this weekend, and they aren't even close to the same beer. MBCP tastes like a hearty breakfast, Hipster tastes like BA Morning Wood with a touch of maple. Honestly, I am 'le disappoint, unless it was on the bottle I wouldn't know there was bacon in Hispter at all.

Had Hipster today...they arent even close...Hipster is delicious, little smoke, tons of maple and bourbon/chocolate goodness..didnt get much Bacon....MBCP is a sweet maple bomb with no barrel...2 completely different brews, both awesome and enjoyable in their own way.

I'll get some Hipster hopefully later this month (thanks to a great MI BAer!), and then I'll be down in January to get some fresh MBCP. I'll be interested in trying them both, while they are both fresh as well.
