I picked up some Ommegang Rare Vos the other day and the bottle I poured last night had an enormous amount of yeast floating in the glass. I poured carefully, but I did pour completely so the bottom was probably stirred up.

What is considered "normal" for yeast? To be honest, it was tough to drink with all of that floating in there. It totally killed my desire to drink the beer. Disappointing, as I have enjoyed the Ommegang experience so far.

Interestingly, the other bottles were fine.

    Thoughts?

Drink the yeast, it'll put hair on your chest.

So it doesn't mean the beer is bad? I'll gladly drink it and man up, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't downing a bad beer. Thanks Fuji.

Rare Vos is bottle conditioned, so yeast sediment (aka dregs, the stuff at the bottom of your bottle) is expected and normal. There is nothing wrong with the beer. If you prefer it without the yeast, allow the bottles to settle upright and stop pouring once you see dregs leaving the bottle.

I'll have to drink one tomorrow. You know, for science.

Thanks blackie. I've got one left and see the sediment at the bottom. I will be more careful and see how it goes. And now that I understand "bottle conditioned" it makes perfect sense.
