Has anyone had this beer almost 1 year past the "best by" date? I didn't notice until I got home that I bought a bottle that was that old. The store I went to today is out of my way - is it worth it to take it back?

I have not, but i'm thinking that it's a lower abv beer that i might, and i stress might, not have not have aged well and as such might be bad, but you won't know until you go ahead and open it and try it. I saw on a previous thred http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/damn-ommegang-does-their-stuff-right.70343/page-3 (post no. 83) that BPA is supposed to have a fresh by date of a 1 year, so if your bottle is only a year old, it could be good.

I say go ahead and try it, especially since the store you went to was out of your way to take it back.

    Cheers!

Eh, it won't be bad. It's just a lot better fresh.

I'd listen to this guy, he would know! It's his post in that previous thread that I mentioned in my post above!

The bottled on date is July 2011, and best by July 2012. Looked all over the label and totally missed the date on the neck of the bottle.

I will give it a try, and hope for the best even though the hops will be nonexistent.

Ommegang usually dates all their beers on the neck. They can be tough to see, unless you hold them up "just right" to the light... and tilt the beer to the perfect angle.

Or maybe I'm slowly going blind in my "old age" (I'm 46).
