I discovered Flanders Red for the first time a few months ago, and it absolutely blew me away.

Gose seems to be the one obscure style historically that is being resurrected and people are really getting into again. Be patient, as it will probably become more plentiful in the next few years.

sadly, you are right. On a recent visit back to the UK i was struck by how hard it was in certain areas to find a traditional cask beer, i.e. a beer that wasn't over 4% and laden with C-hops :-/

I'll have to disagree with this; DeuS was the beer that got me into Belgian beers as a whole, and I've bought one every New Years since. It is on the expensive side, but well worth it in my opinion. It's also likely the only one that can be somewhat commonly found, which is unfortunate as I too would like to try more of the style.

People talk about "brown boring bitter" yet this new stuff has boring down to a fine art.

A BIG +1 to that. You can brew any style you want and you know that the beer is fresh.

In the past few months I have brewed a Classic American Pilsner, Tmavý Ležák (Czech Dark Lager) and a Grodziskie (Polish Smoked Wheat Beer).

    Cheers!

it felt like traditional session cask beers were being thrown away without a care, replaced by clones of eleventy bazillion American craft hop bombs. This made me a very sad panda.

We aren't there yet here , thank goodness . Clones is the word, I thought this when at a Wetherspoon's festival of corrobarative UK/US brewers - sameness and one dimensionality with low flavour levels for the ABV.
