Just wondering if any Colorado BA's or anyone else knows if Avery fills growlers of their tap room only offerings? I would love to acquire some if possible as the Boulder Weisse, Eremita III, and MephAddict are coming on soon or are on and fit my fancy quite a lot. Mmmm...Avery.

Avery won't fill any growlers of anything as far as I know.

You'd have to take out a loan to buy a growler of Meph Addict. I think I paid like $15 for a 5oz pour of it at Rackhouse a couple months back.

The prices at the tap room are actually fantastic in my opinion. I do often wish I could take some of the exclusives home though!

That is too bad. Would be nice. Is there a reason they don't do growlers or is it law-related or something?

Not that I'm aware of. Most all the breweries i know all do growlers, Odell, New Belgium, Left hand, Oskar blues, Etc.

I've asked them before and the answer i got was that they sell six packs and bombers of there stuff to take home and also sell kegs.. Still weak IMO...

Yeah, basically if you want something to take home, buy a bottle or 6-pack. The one-offs, vintage, rarer things, etc. are to be enjoyed at the brewery and aren't available for take away.

They don't fill growlers at Avery due to the risk of oxidation and skunking. They have an idea of what they want their beer to be when it's served and there is a chance that it won't be as such once it gets home. I'd love to take some of their unbottled beers home too, but I understand 100% their reasoning behind this. I'm pretty sure Brooklyn Brewery has the same logic, Garrett Oliver posted something online about this not too long ago

I don't understand this logic at all, Sounds like an excuse. Especially since they don't bottle date any of there regular line-up. How do they explain that? If they bottle dated there regular stuff then i can see it..

Hey all! We often get the question about why we don't fill growlers, and like @cmurd said above, it's all about protecting the beer. As soon as a tap handle is pulled, a can is cracked, or a bottle is uncapped, our precious elixir is let out of its protective home and into the big world of oxygen and other invisible beer enemies. One of our most important goals is to ensure that Avery creations are at their finest when hitting a palate. After sitting for just half a day in a partially-emptied growler, the effects of oxidation and C02 loss are very noticeable. With the overriding focus on quality, the brew crew and lab team themselves asked not to fill growlers.
We also print the Julian date code on bottles and cans - the first two digits indicate year (ex: "12" for 2012), and the next three digits indicate the day of year it was packaged (ex: "058" for the 58th day of the year, or Feb 27th). Bottling date can be found on the shoulder of the bottle just below the neck, and can sometimes be hard to see on the dark glass. Canning date can be found on the bottom of the can, and is generally easier to spot. Below the Julian date, there may also be a time of day and carbonation level, which help us with quality assurance as well.
We do wish we could sell some of our special Tap Room exclusives to-go, but with extremely limited batches, we are already scrambling to keep those pint glasses full. Luckily, we bottle and can 21 brews throughout the year, which are keeping that beer cozy and safe until it's time to crack the shell and start drinking! If you couldn't tell, we love nerding out over beer. If you are ever curious about anything, please hit us up at [email protected].
    Cheers!

Wow thats unfortunate. Meph addict is my favorite beer ever and I dont think I've ever paid more than 8-10 bucks at freshcraft or falling rock

One solution: put mouth directly under tap. Open mouth. Pull tap. Repeat.

 Given all of the top-notch breweries who care about quality and that do fill growlers (Stone, New Belgium, etc) this sounds like a very poor excuse.

I'm right there with you on this one. Seemed like a very poor excuse to me. Like they have higher standards then some of these other world class breweries? I doubt Vinnie at Russian River would let an inferior product leave his Brew pub.

Thank you. Maybe it's because Avery filters the life out of their beers and they don't think a growler will survive the long trip back to someone's house?
