I'm headed to Founders this afternoon and I was wondering if they have anything interesting on tap. They haven't updated the list on their website in a couple of days, but I figured that locals might have a better idea of what they have. Thanks!
Whatever they have on their website is what they have. Whenever they put something new on there's usually an announcement on their Facebook page. They're definitely lacking right now in the specialties and seasonals. Good thing breakfast stout is there! It's all I ever need.
Founders always seems to make exceptional beers, but I wish they'd go out on a ledge with something. Make a bizarre beer ... I feel like Short's is one of too few breweries that does that.
Ponder this list...you're seeing in the marketplace only what gets bottled by Founders, which in itself has some pretty unique (but not necessarily crazy or experimental) beers at times. Breweries that make experimental beers will put them on tap to see if they have a winner that can do into distribution before they go to the expense of making large batches. Short's tends to get more of them out into bottles. They must be a fun-loving bunch of brewers. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1199
I'd say with the success of their everyday lineup, the success of their seasonal lineup, and the success of their Backstage Series, that Founders is doing just fine.
They have everything in their tap list except the Kristall Weiss and the Schwarz. I was there Saturday. No class 3 beers sadly.
I love Founder's as much as anyone, but I feel like they have fallen off on pushing the envelope since their expansion. The last few times I have been in the tap room, I have been disappointed. The only class 2 or 3 that has been around lately is Devil Dancer. On a positive note, I felt the same way about Bell's during their prolonged expansion too. Bell's has really come back strong and have been hitting hard with a lot of great one off brews. I am hopeful that Founder's will get back to some of those small batch experiments soon, or at least that November comes quickly and I can get some fresh Backwoods Bastard on draft.
I think a lot of it has to do with the new recent expansions. I think you'll see more come back like before. Just going to take a little while.
Was talking to one of the taproom managers about this recently. When a party is coming up, they tend to pull back a lot of their beers so that they don't run out for the party. Harvest Fest is in two weeks so they're likely saving for that.
