“But it’s how he survived that really makes it: Reynolds wasn’t exactly prepared for an extended stay in the wild, but he did have a little water and, perhaps most crucially, some Keystone Light.”

So Frank had some water and ‘water’ with him so he could thankfully survive until help arrived.

Cheers to his ‘planning’ and bringing fluids along with him!

Precisely! The last line of the article actually states, "it’s a good thing he brought a beer that’s already very close to water."

Cheers to beer, water, and beer that is practically water!

    Doh! :grimacing:

I must have stopped reading before I got to the end of the article. :flushed:

Another case of great minds think alike!

    Cheers!

Great survival story, with the kicker being Keystone Light. Really illustrates the lengths we'll go to survive!

On a serious note, not being found is something this old forager thinks about too often.

When I was a high schooler I read a small "filler" type article in the local paper about two kids stuck in a boxcar who survived drinking the remnants and "backwash" in the bottles contained in the cases of empty deposit bottles headed back to the brewery that filled the car.

I think what made me remember it was a few years later and I was homebrewing too much beer at once and needed bottles quick, so I bought some empties from my local bar. Luckily I bought 3 cases but only need 2, because a LOT of them had cigarette butts in them and it took a LOT to clean them -even the paper labels (esp. the Schlitz bottles for some reason) reeked of cigarette smoke and ruined every batch of clean water in my tub after only about a dozen bottles. "Gee, what did those kids in the boxcar do with the butt bottles? I hope they sniffed 'em before chugging..."

Anyway, after half a century or so, I've always wondered if I really remembered that, so I went looking for that article:

In the future Wyoming may require a 12-pack of Keystone Light in all remote country ATV survival kits. Along with an AR-15, a Smith and Wesson 38, a hatchet, a Swiss Army knife, and some freeze dried kale in a cooler with the beer. And 15 Slim Jims.

What the article doesn’t mention is that if he didn’t drink that terrible Keystone Light poison he wouldn’t even have needed to be hospitalized.

Nor would he have had that bruising clearly visible in the photo.

Didn’t think Stone would be saving American lives after they tried the whole Berlin thing...

He's very very fortunate that it was Keystone Light he had on hand.

In his weakened state, drinking any other brand of beer would have surely left him doomed to die of Bitter Beer Face.

I’ve looked like that after a few Keystones but I wasn’t trapped or anything.

Two days of drinking Keystone Light would have probably killed me. Or at least made me wish I was dead.
