If they were REALLY BAD then yes, a couple of bad ones would incent me to write them off completely.

Normally if they're just mediocre and I'm at the brewpub, I'll go through the whole lineup if they have a sampler tray. This is a common occurrence locally, and I'm lucky if there's one beer that is worthy of a full pint.

My preference in the last ten years has shifted towards not trying so many new beers unless the beer gains a reputation FIRST. Exceptions are local places, as I'm desperate for finding a convenient local brewery that is excellent, but I'm still waiting. Plenty of great beers on the shelves from California, Oregon, Colorado, Midwest and beyond to keep me happy meanwhile. AZ has very good distribution from other states.

I felt the same way about Abita until a tap takeover full of their bourbon street line.

To answer your question, yes. There is a brewery that I tried their Hefe and was a total misinterpretation of the style as a whole. So now I avoid the completely.

But I got to admit.I love hell or high watermelon.I have a soft spot for Witts.

There are large- and moderate-sized national/regional commercial breweries that I've had a few beers that were unimpressive so that I don't buy their stuff anymore (or even give them a second chance) because there is just too much other good stuff out there.

However, my 'bad' brewery list is made up of small breweries that I visit and decide the beer is not good. Usually it is a new brewery that ends up on my list because they put out their first offerings without any apparent independent feedback about whether their beers are any good, and therefore worthy to be put on tap in the pub. I'll always give a new brewery a second chance visit based upon the fact that new breweries do have some difficulty dialing their recipes into new, larger equipment than what the brewer is probably used to with his/her homebrew equipment. So far, two breweries have made my list, but one was removed on my subsequent visit because the beers were greatly improved. The second brewery is now permanently on my 'no more visits' list because there was no improvement noted on my second visit two years later.

Throw me in the list that will tick a new brewery to find out what they're about (especially local), and if they make it to the do-not-buy list, it takes a lot of love from this BA crew here to open my mind to them again.

I also tend to agree that it has to be a couple traditional styles to turn me off completely. Although if their only highly touted beer is nontraditional and a drain pour, that could sway my opinion as well.

I always try to find the good in breweries. I haven't found any one and done yet.

I only ever found a single one and done.
Southern Tier - Crème Brulee - Without a doubt, one of the worst beers I've ever had. I stupidly tried it again over Thanksgiving at a buddy's house on Friday. I didn't want to be rude to the host, but I should've been. One sip and I was regretting my decision. Fortunately, it was only a sip, but the taste stayed with me all day. I know one beer shouldn't taint an entire line-up, but I just can't bring myself to drink any of their other beers.

Two more that I'll never try again:
Rogue - Too many misses for me to ever try them again.
Shipyard - Pumpkinhead and Export Ale.

I do too - and fruit beers. Maybe my expectations were too high for that. Had it on a hot summer day with a burger. Should have been perfect :slight_frown:

The other option would be to just avoid pecan beers, strawberry beers, and watermelon beers.

I thought so with Pearl Street Brewery in LaCross, WI. They just made a really nice IPA that changed my mind about them.

My brother, when he first started getting into craft beer, bought me a Laughing Dog Brewing Devil Dog Imperial IPA once. It is to this day the most God awful beer I've ever tasted in my life. I'll never drink anything from Laughing Dog again.

They replaced it with another generic session IPA. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/735/154937/

I'll do a "One and Done" with specific beers, but not breweries. Hell, I still even try some Rogue stuff.

You picked the one weak spot from 21st Amendment and I totally agree with you about Abita. I have never understood love of their beers. Maybe every one l have ever had was reeeaaally old, because they all seem to want to explode upon opening - too fizzy! Turbodog is just awful.

I try most product lines even if I don't care for the entire lineup. It helps me make suggestions to people who might enjoy them.

I had an extremely fresh bottle of Lagunitas Undercover Shutdown ale...it was so hoppy, harsh and alcoholic that it went down the drain. If I had known it was going to be this way I would have stashed in the cellar for many years.
