I'll be flying into Dallas tomorrow and have some free time in the afternoon. I'm from North Carolina and never been to Dallas. I'm staying at Hyatt Place Dallas / Plano. What are the best breweries in the area?
    Any advise is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Peticolas and Lakewood are the best. If you like big sweet stouts get any Lakewood Temptress you can find. If you like high alcohol but not sweet IPAs get Velvet Hammer.
I'm not a fan of those beers but they are two of the most popular. I like almost all of their other beers though.

Live Oak is one of the best breweries in Texas. Their hefeweizen is great and it and their Pilz just started showing up in DFW in cans.

Jester King does very good farmhouse/sour beers with wild yeast harvested from their land in Austin, Tx.

Both of those should be available at stores but not bars.

This is up in my neck of the woods ... alternatives to breweries which I recommend:

    1) if you want a good tap lineup with really good bar/pub food, checkout Holy Grail - it's pretty close to where you're at.

    2) if you want to see a really nice tap list of 80+, checkout brass tap Allen. That's not too far from you. They have one of the better regular tap lineups in DFW. Food is ok.

Let me know if you need more info.

I was just saying to pay attention to their beers at either bars or stores. Sadly I don't know the bars or stores up there.

My neighborhood too! The bad news is that we are not really close to any breweries, it is a drive to the ones mentioned.

Your hotel is very close to WhiskeyCake and Sixty Vines. Both are owned by the same people and generally have a pricey but good selection of craft beers. Great place for a business dinner but can be busy though. Reservations recommended.

However, I like to go to the growler places like Taps and Caps and Thirsty Growler for beer minus food. While a little farther, the selection is so much better. Another poster mentioned Holy Grail which is about the same distance. Taverna Rossa usually has a great beer list too.

Bring WW and Veil and you will easily make friends!
