If you had one weekend day (and that day was July 23rd) to hit as many breweries as possible from like 12-5pm, where would you go? I have a birthday coming up. I was thinking Smog City, Monkish, BL, ... I don't know, what else is there? And also what order? I actually live here, I just never get out to any of these spots. Help me!
Don't do phantom carriage. They never have any of their good beers on draft. The only good beer they have in now is Bava and that seems rare for them. They are always sold out of their good stuff and always have their crap beer that is way overpriced. Skip it. Highland park is good but on the other side of town. Eagle rock is about to release their first in a series of wood aged beer which they do well but not enough of. And eagle rock and highland park are close.
The real mystery is why OP, being a local, thinks that "hitting as many breweries as possible" in a five-hour window, on a Saturday afternoon in L.A., sounds like fun.
Yea I would just hang at Beachwood LB. If your adventurous you could hop on the bus and head towards the Alamitos Bay area. Hop off and walk a short distance to the new Ballast Point LB (Alamitos Bay). Beachwood Seal Beach is a close enough walk from BPLB. Or Uber it. Uber it back to Alamitos Bay and catch the bus back to Long Beach. Congregational Ale House is next to Beachwood LB too. Or find a Beer Bus Tour. I'm not really sure if there is one in the LA area. Are you near a MetroLink station? Park and hop on the MetroLink (for $10 all day Sat or Sun) and head to Oceanside. Get off and you got Bagby Beer Co, Local TapHouse, Stone Company Store, Breakside Brewery and a few more pubs along or near PCH. All walking distance. Make sure you catch the last train back. Makes for a great day trip and not have to worry about DUI's.
I would be PERFECTLY content to sit in Smog and Monkish for 5 hours. I mean, I've done it. I was a mess. A few hours at Monkish, hit up Fantastic Cafe, then a few hours at Smog.
I'm not gonna be driving, if that's what you're driving at. to all: In that Torrance area... what about Strand, Absolution, Scholb and/or the Dudes?
Naw, it was more like it sounds a lot more stressful than fun, all that jumping around. Carry on, I'm an old guy.
