Will be stopping by Calgary one night on our way to Vancouver on a road trip. Any suggestions on a great place to eat and drink? I went to Beer Revolution a couple of years ago; anything else recommended? Thanks!
Last Best Brew Pub would be my recommendation. Really high quality food, probably pretty close to where you're staying, and some of the best beer brewed in AB.
would also suggest bottlescrew bill's if you're into lambic, they have a crazy bottle list including some '07 iris/st. gill, '11 bio gueuze, '11 3F golden blend, and '11 tilquin. walking distance from last best too!
Honestly didn't see this and since you have a car. One night in Calgary the bar stool at Divino is best. Craziest bottle selection, only two draft lines but both always solid, awesome food. If you are wine or spirits drinker the place will blow you away best wine list in Canada. My favourite bartender in town and highly suggest seats at the bar. $$, Street parking. Hop in Brew is good quaint in a Samuel Smith pub kind of way but with music funky tap selection and has awesome pizza. $ Parking lot out back of the place. National on 17th has the best tap selection of the bunch. National on 10th has 4 levels with bowling. $ (really great happy hour) Street parking. Trolley 5 brewpub which just opened is way cool. They do bar-b-que, if not your thing the French place Royale next store has awesome food and a great beer selection. As to Trolley Five's beer clean, well made but won't rock your world. $$ Street parking. If you are bottle shopping Oak and Vine Inglewood may be Calgary's best beer store now. $ Parking lot. If local best brewpub is Brewsters is your thing $ Parking lot. Hit the seasonals first. Last Best rocks hops pretty well if that is your thing. Street parking $$
Yeah Bottlescrew Bill's has a nice little aged bottle selection, great steaks there to. Think he has Dieu du Ciel's Solistice on the bottle list now to. If crazy bottle stuff is your thing Kawa used to have a good lambic cellar they still might.
07 Iris was $70, 07 St Gill $80 and Bio Gueze (maybe 09?) $100 I think. Could be off by $10 on any of them.
wow! good to know. i found some cantillon in calgary and picked a couple up the other day from whenever the last shipment was, got a LP framboise for $40 and a rose for $40. there was still a bio geuze left for $35 and supposedly some kriek they couldnt find
they were at JWebb in glenmore laning, this years shipment wont be here until end of october, but there was a few from whenever the last shipment was. you should email them and they may give you a list. I was told they have 3 rose, 1 gueze and 1 kriek but when i got there they pulled out 1 rose 1 gueze and one LP framboise. I obviously bought the LP framboise because it was the same price as the rose $40 and i bought the rose. So there should still be a gueze left which was $34
i didn't get a chance to hit any bars, but i hit 2 bottle shops. Willow Park Inglewood. first, coming from Ontario, the prices in Calgary are double that in Ontario. I used the Trappist beer as an example. $8/bottle for Rochforte 10??? nuts. It's great to see beer like Cascade available, but are Albertans really dropping $45/bottle? Bruery's Cuivre was $50/bottle. not sure if/how that moves. the bottles at Inglewood were a bit nicer. sucks to have to go into the deep freeze to browse for beer. but it's nice to grab a Tilquin plum, even at $17/bottle. i also drove by the new Mill St brewpub. congrats! lol
Cuivre was 30Ish USD when I bought it last year in Portland, plus exchange, markup and cellaring fee... it's deliscious, btw.
We just got our annual Cantillon drop here if that's something you're interested in. On shelves at some places but mainly in back rooms this year since it was pretty limited so you might have to ask around. No events I can think of this weekend so just the usual suspects when it comes to bars/breweries.
