I thought it was funny they called it fatty and lean. The fatty portion comes from the point. The lean from the flat. Yes. I chose the lean, or the flat, because that's the true test IMO of how good they are. You should be able to pick up a slice of flat and easily pull it apart with your fingers. And have juices run off. It passed the pull test. Sort of. Was very tender. Was just dry as a bone. As fatty as a the point is I was surprised they served it. I was really hoping for some burnt ends. Oh well.

But the vast majority of bbq places can't get the flat right either. Brisket is the toughest piece to bbq and get right. So that put them at the middle to bottom of the pack for brisket for me.

I'm sure I'll be back at some point. The wife wants to try it. I visited both times at lunch. At least I know what to get and what not to get!

The sides at Mabel's were bad to awful; the meat was average.

Just wanted to follow up on my post and let everyone know their advice was put to good use. Made it to Great Lakes, Platform, TownHall and Greenhouse Tavern, and had a great time doing it. We really enjoyed the patio at Platform (seeing a couple of English bulldogs helped since we were missing ours, ha). And I found some good stuff Simone's and Rozi's - Wig Splitter, Bean Gene, 3F Intense Red, Dark Apparition, De Proef/Trillium collab. Not too bad for being in the city for less than 24 hours.
