    Hi there,

I'm a Brit who is going to have one Wednesday night in Flagstaff in mid April. I'm wondering which brewery/bar is best for me to go to in order to try a decent range of beers and/or something amazing that's worth the visit.
I'm really into juicy DIPA, red IPA and complex stouts (aren't we all?). If anyone has some suggestions then i'd really appreciate any advice. Cheers!

I think the best brewery is Dark Sky Brewing, but they are only open certain days so check before you go there. Best bar is by far The State Bar where they only serve AZ brewed beers. They do flights and also have Supersititon Mead which is a must if you haven't had fruited meads before. Historic Brewing + Barrel has good beers of their own as well as good guest taps. Best IPAs in town are probably by Mother Road Brewing (they usually sell cans too). Hops on Birch will be good for the best out of state brews and some locals.

I didn't care for Lumberyard, Beaver, or Flagstaff Brewing, Wanderlust Brewing is supposed to be good, but I didn't make it there.

The best part about the Flagstaff Brewing scene is you can literally walk a couple blocks and be at any of these places within minutes except Wanderlust, which is outside of town. Uber is around if you're not staying near the downtown area. If you're looking to bring anything home McGaughs has a great selection even though it is small.

I disagree about Lumberyard. Great beers and food and clean not funky and a great red IPA. Wanderlust is better for funky, For atmosphere (not the beer) Flagstaff Brewing. And plus one for Hops on Birch.

Thanks guys. I wish I had more time, but my wife and I are hiking & driving the Las Vegas Loop so i'm not sure i can squeeze any of the hiking time down to be in Flagstaff more.

If we're still hiking in Grand Canyon until late afternoon then our beer fun may have to be centred around somewhere that serves food too.

That would pretty much limit you to Lumberyard, Beaver Street or Flagstaff Brewing then if you need the food element.

My recommendation would be to go to Mother Road (their Tower Station IPA is very good) and order pizza from Pizzicletta next door (arguably the best pizza in Flag). You can eat the Pizza at Mother Road. Lumberyard is fine, but I would avoid Beaver Street or Flagstaff Brewing.

Have had a couple more recommendations for Mother Road and State Bar so i think they're the two i'm gonna hit. If Mother Road shapes up then I'll get some cans to take out for my trip, unless anyone can recommend a good bottle shop in town?

Bump ... We are going to be passing through Flagstaff on the way to NM Friday right at lunch time, so any recs for solid food and beer while the wife and I are there for lunch?

Mother Road and Pizzacletta next door are the places to hit. Forget elsewhere. Lumberyard isn’t worth it. Weather in the Canyon should be perfect if you’re wanting to hit the river. Just keep in mind what goes down has to come up.

Bumping this up again. Going to be in Flag for the weekend and want to go somewhere Sat night to watch the Pats - Titans game. I've been to Lumberyard before and know they have a lot of TVs and are kid friendly. What places besides Lumberyard have a bunch of tvs, is kid friendly, and serves food. Not too worried about the quality of beer in this case.

Looks like we will be there on the same night....

But, I am more concerned about the quality of the beer. And have no problem finding a game.

Mother Road is the place for quality beer, but last time I was there, they didn't have food or TVs, if I recall correctly. The pizza place next door is supposedly good, though.

I live in Phx so I can get Mother Road all the time (love their Kolsch). Looks like Lumberyard it is, which is fine by me since I think they have a few decent beers. Was just wondering if there is any other place that checks all the boxes.

Good info here, fellas, thanks. Wish I was going to be spending more than one night in Flagstaff..., I had no idea.

Will be stopping in Flagstaff for the night this Thursday on my way down to Phoenix for Spring Training. Plan on doing Dark Sky & Historic. Part of me is thinking I should do Mother Road over Historic? Which is the better combo: Dark Sky/Historic or Dark Sky/Mother Road?

Not looking to do more than 2 breweries. I've tried that before elsewhere and I just feel like I have spread myself too thin, tried a bunch of stuff but didn't get to really appreciate it.

Mother Road for sure. Only brewery in Flagstaff that really impresses me with their beer. Personally, I might hit Lumberyard too so you can fill up on food before hitting the road again. Otherwise, if you only go to breweries without food, grab a sandwich from Proper on your way out.

I am sleeping over in Flagstaff, so no hitting the road afterwards. But do plan on eating while in town, doesn't have to be beer related, so will look into Proper.

Looking at Dark Sky's photo of what they currently have on tap....I have really high hopes for them. Guess I will temper my expectations.

That's not to say their beer is bad. I only went there once, and the tap list had lots of oddball beers. That's not really my thing. So I ordered a standard porter and it was just okay.

If unique flavor combinations are your thing, give them a shot!
