I'll be in Philly next Friday the 13th and I need recommendations on what to do. Are my top 2 spots Tired Hands and Monk's Cafe?
Help me out. Also I will be heading down to Baltimore after that. Anything along the way?

What neighborhood in Philly? While Monks is the classic place, there are plenty of bars with great tap lists

Oh, and don't go to Pat's/Geno's they are a tourist trap.

    I'll be staying here...

    Courtyard By Marriott Philadelphia Downtown
    21 North Juniper Street
    Philadelphia PA, 19107, United States

Will i be taking Uber rides or is there cheap public trains or otherwise?

Lots of new breweries have opened in the past couple of years too within Philly city limits. Tired Hands is still #1, but other worthy stops are:

    - Crime and Punishment in Brewerytown (my favorite local brewery)
    - Second District in South Philly
    - Fishtown Brewpub (they just started crowlering yesterday. Their NE IPAs are really good.)

You're staying very close to both subway lines, but uber in Philly is so cheap you might as well just uber.

Others may disagree, but I always recommend Jim's on South Street for Cheesesteaks. Not too far from where you're staying.

I tell people that a Roast Pork sandwich with sharp provolone from Dinics or Tony Luke's is better than any cheesesteak.

If you like TexMex food, Jose Pistolas is around the corner from Monks and has killer burritos and good beer.

Tony Luke's in South Philly is my recommendation. They also make a very good Roast Pork sandwich but you better love salty if you order that.

    Cheers!

Steve D'Eva is the brewer at Fishtown and he previously brewed at Brotherton. Did you ever drink the hoppy beers he brewed at Brotherton? If so how does his Fishtown beers compare?

    Cheers!

I haven't tried Brotherton, but Fishtown Brewpub is already good, even after 1 try at NE IPAs.

Embrace your tourist side, go to Pats and Genos after the bars close.

haha. No need to watch reality TV if you make a Pat and Geno's visit.

Order one with Swiss cheese, and try to pay with a credit card. If you can speak Spanish, even better.

Second district is the best, Lots of variety and great great beer. Crime and punishment too. I may be in the minority but second district I prefer over tired hands, cleaner and nicer beers. Just my opinion, it depends what you like I guess.

From there, since it's only one night, you can just walk to stuff. Monk's is a few blocks away. As is the highly underrated Strangelove's. And Good Dog. And lots of other stuff. If you like mussels, eat at Monk's.

You're also right near Reading Terminal. Go to Dinic's. Get a roast pork sandwich. Forget you ever heard the word "cheesesteak." Also it's a crime that people recommended Tony Luke's ahead of John's for roast pork. The cheesesteak at John's is better too, but stick to roast pork.

As for Baltimore - if you're driving, hit up State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD. It's less than a mile off 95, and they have a huge beer selection. In Baltimore, just go to Max's.
