Quit kidding yourselves. All beers are prostitutes. Think about it.

There will always be the relationship beer in my fridge whether it be SNPA, or Smuttynose something or Harpoon IPA, but I think the fun of trying the rare one-offs is to be able to say "I had a night with that one once" and at that moment the memory will come back as fresh as the night it happened hopefully and you'll long for just one more night with that one until you stumble across another rare one-off. It'll be a brag to your friends but then also a story to tell your grand children

For me, I usually base it on style. If the one off is a style I'm not into but the year round is, Relationship beer it is! If it's vice versa, then this one's a one night stand!

May your beer relationships be like your dating life. Find yourself a light one and develop your relationship. Find a bunch of different heavies for one-night stands.

We do not visit pubs much in the states to drink out. Mainly because its just too expensive. If I go out its like 5 or 6 times 5 or 8, and I rather buy beer at the store cheaper.

Still new micro pop up, and we visit from time to time.

I buy almost the same thing every time I go to the store.

Still IF 1 thing seasonal or limited is out and I like the "style" I will splurge...
I mean it really changes month to month and if I have any extra cash also...

All I have done this past year is only try new beers.

The only repeat buys are Two Hearted, Furious and FBS.

Much prefer to find a year round or seasonal beer that I know I can drink again. One offs have their place, but it doesn't hold as much weight knowing you won't be able to drink it again.

So we are talking specifically about bar or restaurant beers. I usually order the beer that I've never had on tap before that I've had from bottle or can and loved, or if I haven't had it before but it has been raved about here on BA, that is the beer I choose. Whether its a regular lineup beer or special release is irrelevant.

Last night at a local watering hole:

Really hot server: Wow, you guys get different beers every time you buy a round. I like it!
Me: Yes, I cheat on my beers because I can't cheat on my wife.
My friend: If you know his wife you know he would be dead if he cheated on her.
Me: And that is absolutely true.
Really hot server: (Laughing) As it should be!

Not sure if it answers the original question but it was an amusing conversation.

At the bar, I am 60% more likely to try a one-off beer. From the store to bring home, I am 60% more likely to go for a beer I am familiar with.

I'll always try I new or one-off beer if it's a style I like, but I don't look for them. Standard craft in styles I enoy is 90% of what I drink and I doubt that will change.

Always go for the limited production beer. The standard line-up brew will be there next time.

But if you always go for the limited, you'll never get to the standard.

Hmm, never really contemplated this one. If I find a standard beer that I greatly enjoy, I have no problem returning to it. However, I find that I will keep a small allotment of a standard beer and a constant rotation of one-off's. So I'll try a new beer or two but close out the night with an old favorite.

Oh, well... first world problems. :-)

Or, you could drink more often or more per visit?

I'm generally a *****. I try as much as I can looking for something better. But I have 3 long term relationships going. I've been married to Victory Prima Pils for a solid 2-3 years now. I've been seeing Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on the side for about 2 years and recently, I took on another lover. Fat Head's Head Hunter now has earned her spot in my bed (beer fridge).

I generally keep it pretty even. When buying from stores, I get a few I've never had (including limited releases and shelf items) + a few regulars. My regular lineup is getting quite long.

When going to bars, it's usually to try limited release stuff.
