    Augustiner-Bräu - Heller Bock

    Heller Bock from Germany (7%).

Pours a crystal clear, bright golden coloration with a large, fluffy head and visible carbonation. Smells of intense bready, doughy malt, with a certain sourdough quality to it, some grassy, slightly floral hops and just a hint of honey and hay, with subtle fruity accents as well.

Taste is an excellent balance of quite doughy, bready, slightly grainy malt and grassy, floral and slightly fruity hops, with notes of freshly cut grass, wet hay, wildflower honey and some subtle berry accents. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some doughy malt, grassy hops and honey lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for quite a rich Maibock that is dominated by sweet'ish, doughy malt, but balanced very nicely against some grassy, slightly bitter hops, making this surprisingly easy-drinking for its strength, without even a hint of booziness.

Rich and satisfying, while still remaining quite quaffable and refreshing, this really makes for a very well balanced brew that is a joy to drink, with the mild hints of wildflower honey and berries really adding to drinking experience despite being rather subtle.

Currently listening to: Monster Magnet - Cyclops Revolution.

Sorry....no picture. I do not have an appropriate glass for this style. I am drinking Aventinus Weizenbock (Tap 6). Pours a deep amber/brown with a frothy and thick mocha colored head. Aroma is bready malt, banana and clove. These combine to produce a candied fruit like smell. Flavors follow the nose; bready malt, sweet banana, clove and a bit of spice. Full bodied with moderate to high carbonation, very creamy and soft. What a fantastic beer. The alcohol is well hidden. Great balance and dangerously easy to drink. I wish I had purchased more than one. I had forgotten how much I like this style. This is my favorite so far.

More Einbecker Maibock goodness. Reviewed yesterday in this thread, if anyone cares. It's damn good though.

    It's back!.. It's BOCK!!

    BOCKAMOLA!! BOCKAROLLA!! BOCKNIFICIENT!! BOCK ME!!

uh... don't read too much into that last statement...

    BOCKAFRAGILSTICADRINKTHATTHING kind of weekend.

Up to second bock for the weekend. very good choice I pulled here. Going back to notes I actually reviewed this on tap.. so I am having out of the bottle for a very cool comparison.

Well I gotta say, controlling this out of the bottle and she is still a fine looker indeed that's still for sure. But the aroma on this is far more superior than what I had on tap at the time. Fantastic deep fruity raisin notes and mixed brown bread touching caramel, almost cherry sensing fruit quality. Woah where was this last time!

Palate very much like my other review, probably even better, there's even touches of chocolate milk and coffee, along with this creamy vanilla and toffee and nuts. Woah.

I would score this higher than my on tap review I had, sadly I am going to drink this in 5 seconds it feels like.

    Cheers!

Realized I had one can left from Carton’s Floresinator, so I figured I’d join this weekend’s bock tasting. This beer is in no way a traditional but I know Augie Carton likes to brew some offbeat beers. As you can read on the can, they swapped out hops for coffee beans, which makes it more of a coffee beer.

First thing I notice is that the beer is almost dark enough to be a stout, but looking closer it’s brown.

Aroma is of fresh coffee beans.

Taste is very coffee forward, with a definite sweetness.

Very smooth and somewhat thick mouthfeel.

Overall, for a doppelbock it’s not my favorite but for a coffee beer in general, it’s very tasty!

    Cheers!

We're fortunate to have such a fine purveyor of German-style beer as Ramstein so close to home. I believe this is the first year they have canned the Maibock and it's really nice. It pours a clear, honey-amber color with one finger of milk-white head and lacing. It smells of bready malt, banana, clove, floral hops, and a whiff of toffee. The taste is sweeter than the smell with lots of bready malt, toffee,, and a hint of honey. It finishes dry, smooth, and slightly bitter. It's fairly light in body with pleasant carbonation, and it is very drinkable with a manageable ABV of 7%. This is my second pack this year and maybe not the last.

I've revised my rating of 2017.

Finished with Lowe's, the grocery, transplanting plants, and removing storm doors & windows.

Time to settle back with Kozlak; a Bock from Polish brewery Browar Amber.
    The label says
They don't need to keep it a secret

There is a good beer hiding behind the sugar.
Kozlak is sweet. The aroma is a faint molasses and the taste follows. Molasses, caramel, Russian rye bread, in fact, it almost begs for a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Another from the locals, this time from Nightshift Brewing,
A tip from Beer Mike at Coopers Corner in Florence MA.
This offering is full on the palate, sweet while avoiding the edge.
    Superb dry finish

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 2/15/2021 into the test mug.
A - Dark copper, mahagony color, a bit murky, Thin off white cap is quick to exit. There are pluming colunms of carbonation feeing the perimeter.
S - Caramel, brown sugar, pumpernickle dough, slight hint of fruity esters. Earthy hops add a nice touch
T - Brown bread, a bit of dark fruit, raisan, fig, the slightest hints of tobacco and molasses.
M - Medium to hefty on the palate, borders on oily for a lager, The sweet start moves to center in short order. The finish is sudden and quite dry. Linger is like a hard root beer ball but Dopplebock instead. I like it
O - A solid nod the the classics. Hefty and rich, with a nice dry finish.
I will be getting a few more before the season is up

Finally joining the action! Starting with this maibock from Festbier, IMO one of the best if not the best lager brewer in NYC (Brooklyn).
ABV 6%. Pours a slightly hazy, pale amber/gold, topped with a pillowy, 2-finger, bright white head, which leaves substantial lacing as the liquid dwindles. My good-for-nothing nose is picking up little beyond a subtle whiff of bread dough. My tongue has more to work with though. A very enjoyable mélange of sweet bread dough, a hint of honey, mildly grassy hop bitterness and a tiny bite of white pepper. A moderately drying finish. Really nice. Complementing a ham and munster on pumpernickel nicely.

I'm not using power tools today, so I may as well continue with the bocks. This time Andechs Doppelbock:
Pure malt mastery here. At first blush it seems like it's a pure expression of the malt itself, but a few sips in and you realize all is not as it first seemed, and there's a lot of subtle complexity going on. Toasty melanoidins, caramel, pumpernickel, dates, dried lavender, toffee/nuts, spice cookies, and even cocoa shows up after a few more sips- but all of these qualities are gentle and well woven into the base.

It's smooth and rich with very restrained bitterness and a moderately dry finish/ just a smidge sweet but not cloying, and juuuust enough of an acidic nudge to lend some needed pop. One of my all time faves!

    Kloster Andechs - Doppelbock Dunkel

    Doppelbock from Germany (7.1%).

Pours a clear, deep mahogany coloration with a reddish hue and a medium, creamy head. Smells of toasted, bready, caramel malt and dark fruits, with notes of fig and raisin, with just a hint of brown sugar, chocolate, coffee and herbal hops as well.

Taste is an excellent balance of toasted, bready, caramel malt and earthy, herbal and spicy hops, with dark fruit notes of fig and raisin, some chocolate and lighter coffee, as well as hints of brown sugar and peppery spice. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium bitterness and some caramel malt, dark fruits and estery spice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.

This makes for an excellent Doppelbock that is dominated by a rich, malty base of bready, caramel malt, dark fruits and chocolate, balanced very well against some more earthy and bitter notes of coffee, herbal hops and spice, while being quite full-bodied as well, with a rather satisfying mouthfeel. It really is that balance of sweet and bitter notes that makes this such a joy to drink, feeling quite rich and complex, yet never cloying or boozy at all. Definitely one of my favorite and probably the most available Doppelbock all year round, a real treat to be sure.

Well what better beer for post number 100 than a Celebrator. My first time sampling this classic. I have read a lot of reviews here over the last few days. I really don't think I can add anything. Sometimes the less said the better. This one is a keeper. Cheers everyone!!
