Its time for the next Beer Advocate online tasting!

Everyone is invited to join the BeerAdvocate community starting on Friday, June 18th and continuing to Sunday June 20th for an online tasting of "wheat beers".

The parameters for this tasting will be any wheat beer that falls into any one of the following categories:
I know there are other beers brewed with wheat, such as Wheatwines, but for the purposes of this tasting we are limiting it to the above styles. That being said, there should be a wealth of options available to everyone within these styles. I will post the actual tasting thread on the 18th, but in the meantime use this thread to discuss options and plan you tasting.

Need suggestions for a beer to get for the tasting thread? Post here and you'll get lots of helpful suggestions. And, if possible, try to support your local breweries when purchasing beers for this tasting thread.

Finally, have an idea for a future online tasting that you would like to see? Go over to the Online Beer Tasting Idea Submission Thread and suggest an idea for a future tasting: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/online-beer-tastings-idea-submission-thread.657956/

I'm not sure what else I will be picking up to round things out, but I am planning to do a Oberon and Tropical Oberon side by side tasting for one of my posts.

I might do an Oberon and Oberon side by side (sans Tropical). No joke.

I may pick up one or two additional singles. The two I have on hand are the past two Goose Island BC releases, 2019 which I also tried last year, and the still new to me 2020 release.

Wheat is not a style I typically turn to, but appreciate a good wheat beer. New Glarus' Dancing Man was the best new wheat beer I tried this year, perhaps ever. Bell's Oberon is also one of my favorites. It pained me not to bring home my standard 12 pack (or two) with this year's release, but I am still working through my beer stash (both cellar and fresh). Flightless by Transient and Gumballhead / Drunk Monk, both by Three Floyds are additional ones I have liked over the years.

I am not aware of many wheat beers produced locally beyond Dovetail and a few others I have already tried, but if @FBarber or anyone else has a good suggestion or two, I'm all ears. I may also head to The Beer Temple or my local craft bar for 1-2 German versions.

Im planning to stop by my local shop that sells singles and see what I can find this coming weekend ... I'm sure there are some that I'm just not aware of. Is Revolution's Sun Crusher out yet?

Yes it is. I like that one as well, pretty much any beer that has Amarillo hops.

I clicked the other styles for ideas and came across a solid new to me option, Jungle Boogie by Marz. I enjoyed the Double version, so I'll try to track down the standard version, a favorite for many and ranked 8th in the sub-style on BA.

There's been some discussion in the overburdened Midwest forum about the best Minnesota hefeweizen.

I was trying to get a Schell's, a Fair State, and a Utepils (at least 2 of which - but not always the same 2 - is in nearly everyone's top 3) for a side-by-side-by-side on day 1 of the tasting.

I was not impressed with either the Fair State or the Utepils a couple of years ago, but the high praise (plus some encouragement from other BAs) says it's time to give them another shot.

Fate, however, had mercy, and I was only able to get the Schell's and the Utepils.

So, day 1 will be a side-by-side of those two.

I've completed my shopping for the tasting, but I haven't yet determined which ones will make an appearance and when during the weekend.

Here's a suggestion that might be interesting to some:
Hefeweizen- one with a full pour vs. one decanted.

    I'll probably do that myself.

I see these were omitted from the @FBarber list? Maybe because the recent B-wine tasting?

Pretty much, at least in theory. But if you do it with bottles from the same sixer you'd be eliminating a potential extra variable.

You might enjoy a post I've been planning to make in the tasting thread. It'll combine all of the above if I get to do it. Another variable with using their Kristall is that unlike a decanted Hefeweizen, it isn't a bottle conditioned beer.

I suspect it was left out because on this very site it is not listed under Wheat Beers (despite the name). Wheatwine is listed under Strong Ales.

Yea sorry, I totally overlooked that in @ChicagoJ 's original post. The Wheatwines are not going to be included for this tasting - Yea, they're wheat based but quite a bit stronger than the styles listed here for the tasting and yes, they were also included in the recent barleywine tasting.
