Business trip to TX next week. 3 nights in Dallas, and only one in Austin. I'd like to maximize my Austin beer/food experience. I've searched the "Places" section on this site, but it's hard to narrow down. Suggestions?

What night of the week will you be here? Where are you staying? Will you have transportation? If you can give a little more information about where and when, I'm sure you'll get better suggestions, because Austin is pretty spread out.

That being said, if you're downtown and don't want to drive, I'd recommend Craft Pride and Bangers (right across the street from each other). About 150 taps between the two of them, and usually great selection. If you want to drive/taxi/uber/lyft, I'd head north and go to Draught House and Pinthouse Pizza.

For bottles to buy, WhichCraft is near downtown, as is East 1st Grocery (and the Whole Foods flagship store). Between those, you should be all set on anything you need.

I'll let others chime in on food (besides whats available at those bars) - I tend to not eat downtown, unless I'm going to East Side King or for BBQ.

And if you're here Fri/Sat/Sun, obviously I'd recommend Jester King, but sounds like you'll be here during the week.

We need more information like Ken suggested. My wife arranges dinners as a food guide for visitors if you needed names of affordable to high end restaurants (or great happy hour deals). Let me know what you like to eat and price range, so I can help narrow down selections.

If you're willing to leave downtown, Hopfields, Pinthouse, and Black Star (very accessible by rail) are your best options.

Thanks to all for your replies. I think Bangers/Craft Pride sounds like a winning combination. I hope to have future trips when I can explore Austin more completely. Disappointed that Jester King won't be open during my short stay (Wed. Evening only).

Bangers and Craft Pride are on the same side of the street and on the same block, from what I recall being there Labor Day weekend.

similar situation for me...will be in Austin this Saturday and looking for somewhere with good draft selection and tv's for college football during the late morning/early afternoon. I'm staying north of downtown, near Mopec Blvd/Loop 1 and Route 183 intersection...any closer suggestions other than Bangers?

You could hit up Pinthouse Pizza, not too far from where you'll be staying

Ditto Pinthouse. NXNW and Black Star both have TVs I think and are also nearby, though I don't think NXNW has any guest taps, just their own stuff. Billy's on Burnet may be another option, but I've never been.

This is the best answer here.

Pinthouse actually does a decent job of having multiple of the good games on the TVs as opposed to the same game on all of the TVs. The show the good games....and is your best bet.

Def Pinthouse. I love Billy's but it's a locals place, not something I'd do if I only had one night.

You're also very close to Austin Beerworks if you can live without football for a few hours...they always have 3-6 beers that are taproom only.

Actually, which game are you looking for in particular? There are some watch parties around town that I may be able to point you in that direction (for some reason, I think I recognize your name from a Tech football forum).

Luckily, early afternoon will not have the TVs covered in UT football.

Ohio State alum so looking for their game...it's the early slot at 11am. Pinthouse sounds good but if any OSU watch parties available would definitely consider that.

Do any of these places have live music? If not, are any of them close to a place with good live music?

Bangers frequently has live music - check their web site.

And anywhere near downtown is near somewhere with live music - we're talking about Austin, the "live music capitol of the world"

If for a weeknight? Might be a bit harder to find it.

On a weekend? Blackheart on Rainey right near Bangers seems to always have live music.
