Hello, I am visiting in South Carolina and plan on going to Charleston for half a day. I have heard about a couple breweries there and also heard about the Chareleston Beer Exchange and also James Island Piggly Wiggly. I only have the time and funds to visit one place. Any suggestions? I would like to try some local stuff as I am from Indiana. I would also like to buy some beers that I know are not in my state if I visit a store.

If you think I should hit up a brewery, I'd just like to say I prefer to drink stronger beers and I love imperial/double IPAs and stouts so which ever has the better selection along that end. I would research myself but I'm on a family vacation with little time to be on the internet.

    Thanks

If I could only visit one place, it'd be Charleston Beer Exchange.

if you are only in Charleston for a half-day visit you will most likely be hitting historical downtown. If so, just go to Charleston Beer Exchange as Handle said.

Coast and Holy City are both in North Charleston, Westbrook is in Mount Pleasant, and the Piggly Wiggly is on James Island. No they aren't that far away but if you are with family they'll probably appreciate you not dragging them around in city traffic. CBX is pretty easy to get to and has a great selection.

CBX is a good choice if you can only make 1 stop. Personally, I would rather hit Westbrook and zip down the road to Bottles or the Pig in Mt Pleasant for bottles. I just prefer the brewery experience to bottle shopping (plus Westbrook and COAST make excellent stuff). If your family has no interest in going with you, CBX is the best bet as they can walk around the historic district while you shop.
