Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston signed a bilateral “Direct-to-Consumer Alcohol Agreement” on March 2, 2026 (just a few weeks ago). This deal lets Ontario breweries (and wineries/distilleries) sell and ship beer directly to Nova Scotia residents, and vice versa. It removes the old interprovincial trade barriers that previously made direct shipping difficult or illegal in many cases. The agreement took effect immediately on the day it was signed.Quick details: Nova Scotians (19+) can now order Ontario craft beer online straight from the brewery and have it delivered to their door for personal use. Ontario producers apply to the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) for quick authorization (the process is supposed to take just days). Same thing works the other way around for Nova Scotia producers shipping to Ontario. This is part of a bigger push by the two provinces (and others) to knock down internal Canadian trade barriers on alcohol. It’s often tied to the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) efforts
Ontario & Quebec is planned for May 2026. The increased variety is a 2 + 2=5 synergy that will expand beer sales.
