That's what the last guy said.
But seriously, I've never had an issue with waxed tops or samurai but this thread pops up every couple of weeks and people's lack of ingenuity always entertains me.

Should have just thrown the whole bottle in the fire. That beer didn't deserve being consumed.

I usually cut an X on top of the cap, then with a very light motion w/ the tip of the knife you can pry the wax off underneath the X. Goes pretty quickly then you use an opener. French Toasted WnB being the time where it wasn't easy.

I just microwave my bottle for a minute and the wax just melts off.

I use the bottle/jar opener part of my kitchen shears. I put the teeth of the shears just below the beer cap and twist back and forth a few times until I can get my opener under the cap. Works great, especially on those hard wax bottles from breweries such as Surly.

I strongly recommend dynamite for any Bruery waxed bottles.

I don't understand how this has gone on for two pages. Even the heaviest waxed bottles I've seen take just a knife down the neck to slice/peel open, while the cap can be sliced around the bottom of it, then peeled back/pried off. There's never been a bottle I've opened that required the need to come on to a forum and ask how to open it. Cut the wax, remove it, pop the cap. It's not rocket science and you're not opening a safe in a bank.

I found that with Bruery wax, a chainsaw works pretty well.

Knives work fine on beer #1. Better have staff on hand after you've had a few.

I usually run a knife (or razor blade) around the cap just below the seal (making sure to cut down to the glass) and use a bottle opener to open it. Not sure how everyone is having as much difficulty as it sounds like they are...

Get a high end wine opener- mine has a serrated hook knife on it and is sturdy as sh!t.

If it's thin enough wax, I just use a bottle opener.

If it's thick, I used a knife to score it before using a bottle opener. And hope I avoid a trip to the ER for stitches.

Have been running my heavily waxed Bruery bottles under hot water for about 20-25 seconds, a good yank clears the cap right off.

I use a cigar butane pocket torch. It is stupid easy to get through, my friends, however, seem to hate when I bust it out. I guess they are afraid.
