Punkin is my least favorite of pumpkin beers I can tolerate but I don't really get any artificial flavors from it. I've noticed lots of people love Pumking, so I'm beginning to think I have a sensitivity to something they use in the recipe. I literally felt sick to my stomach after drinking it!

ST Pumking by a landslide. Epic/DC Brau's Pumpkin Porter is fantastic as well. I do have a bottle of '11 Oak-aged Treat (my first) from my Alaska haul, looking forward to that!

I like the DFH Punkin, alot, but I really love the Nunkin (or P90 as it is sometimes called) A blend of Punkin and 90 minute IPA. It has the hop charactor of the IPA, but the sweetness of the Punkin. If you like the Aprihop, you should like this one ( you can get if from the Alehouse or try it home with a bottle of each)

I have had a number of Pumpkin beers this year: Dogfishhead Punkin, Pumpking, Elysian: Night Owl, Great Pumpkin, Dark O’ The Moon, Williamsburg AleWerks Pumpkin, and a bunch of others.

My hands down ‘winner’ this year is Flying Dog The Fear (Imperial Pumpkin Ale): that beer is awesome!

    Cheers!

P.S. Kudos to Dogfishead for making a very good Pumpkin Ale year after year!

La Parcela from Jolly Pumpkin is more of a sour ale than a pumpkin ale and has the tartness one would expect from a lambic, balanced by the presence of cinnamon and cocoa. Very good and definitely worth trying.

My two favorite: Kern River Pumpkin Ale is simply amazing. As well as Cambridge Brewing Co. The Great Pumpkin. Those are fantastically brewed pumpkin beers.

Wow, some of us need to learn how to read. The question in this thread is asking what people's thoughts are on the various pumpkin beers out there; not your personal opinion of the style as a whole. If you want to discuss that then start a new thread instead of replying with "Uhm...pumpkin beer just isn't my thing...", etc. and wasting everyone's time.

I happen to like this seasonal style quite a bit and the emergence of pumpkin ales on the shelf at the liquor store gives me another reason to look forward to the Fall. Maybe it's the "cloying sweetness", or the menagerie of spices, or the feeling that I'm drinking Autumn, but I am a loyal fan of all things pumpkin and beer.

I live in Chicago, so the following choices are based on what I have available to me here:
    1.) Pumking - Southern Tier
2.) Fat Jack - Sam Adams
3.) Punkin Ale - Dogfish Head
4.) Pumpkin Smasher - Big Muddy
    5.) Punk'n - Uinta
    6.) Painted Ladies - Tyranena

    Wanting to try:
    - The Fear - Flying Dog
    - Crooked Line Oak Jacked Imperial Pumpkin Ale - Uinta

Sam Adams' Fat Jack is awesome!

I wouldn't rim the glass. This style of beer is usually sweet/flavorful enough on its own, so that any additional sweetness would tip the scales too much in my opinion.

I have a soft spot for any and all things pumpkin, so those beers tend to resonate with me, too.

To me the upper tier pumpkin beers (that actually have some form of distribution) are Pumking, Shlafly, Oak Jacked, and (maybe) Upslope.
Below those, I’d probably go with the Uinta/Four+ Punk’n, Dogfish Punkin Ale, SA Fat Jack, and BJ’s. BJ’s sucked last year, but I’d say it’s now back to form.
I know some people really dig the Elysian pumpkin beers, but to me they’re a bit too heavy on the anise. If you like that – include those, too.

Big fan of some pumpkin beers. Like a lot have said, I'll take ST Pumking over just about anything else. Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin is another favorite of mine.

There's quite a few that have turned me off though, Flying Dog "The Fear" and Ichabod's pumpkin are just gross to me. Same with Post Road from Brooklyn.

Crooked line is a pretty solid beer. Had it a couple weeks ago, I'd buy it again.

I just now finished a Cambridge Brewing Great Pumpkin, which appeals to me due to it's light hand on the spice shelf and allows it to come across as a lightly gourd-flavored brew rather than as a pint of dessert.

No one has mentioned Terrapin's Pumpkinfest.

    Maybe my favorite Pumpkin beer

Yeah, that and the Jolly Pumpkin were the two possibilities I had in mind. But with Narwahl and other more immediately interesting beers coming soon, I think I'll be saving my money. This is the stout and porter season for me, anyway. Thanks for the tips, though!
