Opinions: Sprecher Brewing

    What do you guys think about Sprecher? I think they've flown under the radar a little bit as my local beer store hasn't really heard about them (that's where I get hit with a lot of beer knowledge). I've tried their Black Bavarian, Piper's Scotch Ale, and their triple. All were, in my opinion, fantastic. what say ye?

    Black Bavarian is one of my go to beers. The brewery tour is fun too. For what it's worth, they also make excellent sodas.

    I do like Piper's Scotch Ale, but most of their stuff is just OK. One thing they don't do well IMHO is hoppy beers, haven't had a good one from Sprecher yet. And yes, their sodas are very good!

    Had most of their beers from a variety case and their restaurant. Would take their sodas over almost all of them

    Won't seek out any of their IPAs then. Seems as if Sprecher is more of a northern/ great lakes thing.

    As other have mentioned Black Bavarian is worth seeking out. I also enjoy their Irish Stout. Most of their other stuff is so-so to decent. Kind of sad in a way - Special Amber was the beer that got me into craft back in the late 80's.

    Did you try citra bomb I thought that was a pretty solid IPA from them.

    Black Bavarian is a winner, the rest I tried (purchased in Kansas) did not impress me, but may not have been super fresh

    Odd... I remember drinking Sprecher back in Wisconsin, but have no recollection of what I thought of it... must not have thought of it highly at the time, but that was 5 or 6 years ago.

    I toured their brewery and was bored to tears. I realize most people like to tour breweries and get to the free beer which is what our guide pushed us towards. I like to tour a brewery and see where/how they do everything opposed to other's I've been to and such. I also ended up drinking their sodas far more than beers at the end of the "tour" their sodas are bomb. If in the area tour Lakefront instead, that tour is awesome. Plus seeing the old slide from the old Brewer's ballpark is cool

    Sadly, can't get 'em here in MO, but I remember from my early craft-drinking days that I was underwhelmed by the Hefe, really enjoyed the Pub Ale, and loved the Black Bavarian. Their bourbon-barrel aged imperial stout, brought back from the brewery by a friend, was tasty as well.

    Black Bavarian is bomb. Had a few offers, nothing to turn my nose up at.

    Cites bomb was rather disgusting Imo. I saw it and was so stoked and then I tasted it. I literally asked what they did to make it so fruity/tea like .... apparently they put grapefruits in with it.

    The Pipers and Triple were nice. But my first experience with them was an (I am guessing old?) I2PA. One of the worst beers I have ever had.

    Beers have been so-so imo. I'm hooked on the hard root beer though, that stuff is kickin.

    Me too. It seemed like the tour guide was getting paid ten dollars for each time she mentioned the name Randy Sprecher.
