Sounds like 18-24 cases (two different figures I heard today) made it to the state. HyVee on Edgewood Road in Cedar Rapids had like 24 bottles at $3.99 each. Johns in Iowa City got some with a 2 bottle limit.
Picked up 2 bottles at Oakland road. Johncys had gotten theirs yesterday and sold out. They're chillin in the fridge now. Chill faster!!
Yeah, I hear ya...I liked it, but next year I won't go out of my way to get it. For my wife and I's taste, we much prefer Hopslam and Ruinten
Ames Hyvee east was selling 6 packs and Cyclone Liquors next door was selling singles (not sure on limits at either place) and was told by both stores they each only got 1 case. I guess I don't see the problem with the "extreme" limits on this one. If the state only got 18-24 cases thats what 96 six packs at most and if the majority of stores only got 1 case they can make 1 to 24 customers happy depending on how they want to break it up and sell/limit it. Given its one of the more scarce beers that Bells brews and widely distributes trying to spread it around isn't a bad thing. I also seem to remember Iowa (among other states) not getting any bottles last year and only a couple of places getting kegs.
I went to a place that only had 1 bottle limits but that being said my personal belief is to not break up packs (work at Beertopia in Omaha). Ultimately, I don't fault the beer manager for making his decision (we do 1 bottle per customer on limited 22oz etc. which most places in town do not and we believe that is the right choice for us and our customers), because I too have to make tougher beer related decisions from time to time and I know you won't please everyone no matter what you do.
I felt silly selling 1 bottle of Oracle for $3.49 and limiting it 1 per customer. I only got 1 case and I'd rather make 24 people happy then 4 people. Nobody complained.
I should have said I don't blame any beer manager (or other employee) in any beery situation like this no matter what decision they make, as I did mean it as a blanket statement You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I was excited to "finally" try the beer whatever the amount was!
Although I was disappointed with the 1 bottle limit (I figured it would be 2), I don't disagree with the decision. As you stated, nobody complained, and I'm guessing that's because most of us driving across town @ 10:00 am on a Friday morning for 1 or 2 12oz bottles of beer understand why you would make that decision. I, too, am just happy that I got to try it. Also, I appreciate how up to date/informed you keep those of us who pay close attention. Thanks for that!
Once again, thanks for letting us know, and even though it was only one 12oz bottle, it was fun driving all the way over for something "rare".
