Wow, this regional forum seems busier and used much differently than the forum from my area.

Anyway, I'm visiting my sister in February who lives in Lake Forest. I'd either be staying there or somewhere in Huntington Beach. She and her fiancé are open to traveling around while I'm there.

Obviously Monkish is on the list, and ideally I'd love to make the trek down to SD.

Is there any brewpub worth checking out in the Lake Forest/Huntington Beach area? Good bottleshops for some easy treats to scoop up?

Lake Forest: Nothing really, pretty dead area.

Huntington Beach: Beachwood for sure. Riip is cool too (not as cool as Beachwood though). Don't know about liquor stores in Huntington (Hi-Time Wine to the south in Costa Mesa isn't super far and has a great selection).

Outside of those cities, go to Anaheim and hit up Noble, Bottle Logic, Green Cheek and The Bruery.

    This may help also:

another also, reading "easy treats to scoop up" was like nails on a chalkboard to me for some reason.

edit#234: sorry for all the edits, am drunk cant type good

BT's BBQ is right off the freeway and is usually well maintained with local brews (none of the big guys)

With how the dynamic of SoCal is, any 'easy treats' most likely are gone within an hour if not faster. Best bet is to bring a few bottles/cans with you for an IP trade that you either setup prior or when you get here.

Lake Forest - Dimension Liqour is a pretty good bottle shop. Heroes and legends bar and grill has a great tap list. Also, Bru Market and grill has some bottles with good food and tap list. Great place for happy hour.

A short drive from Lake forest is Laguna Beach Beer Co., in Rancho Santa margarita.

Huntington Beach Riip and Beachwood are a must.

Best bottle shop is in Costa Mess at Windsor Homebrew Supply shop.

Yes, BT's Southern BBQ is a good spot for some Q & IPA's. Nothing really big in beers. But they almost always have Societe beers (including IPA's) on tap. Kern River shows up once in awhile. And of the 13 taps, 7 or 8 are usually IPA's. It's a better atmosphere when Dave is there.

American Dream at Pacific City in HB has 50ish(?) beers on tap, the majority (if not all) are from So. Cal. They let you try as many as you want before you buy (don't be a dick about it though.) The food is really good and you can watch the ocean from the bar.

There's also a Dude's tasting bar under the same roof, but I've not had anything special from them.

Rockin' Crepes in HB has some surprises on tap occasionally.

Eureka! at Bella Terra mall has good food and a decent taplist. It's roughly across the street from BT's, which I will also second as being a good place to go.

That map is legit! Actually I forgot to mention board in brew in Racho, which is the next city over from lake forest. Great sandwiches and tap list.

Regardless if you stay in LF or HB, the best breweries in OC (in my opinion) are within a 25 minute drive and once you are in that general vicinity, all of them are within a 5min/10min drive ... these TOP OC breweries are -> Bottle Logic, Green Cheek, Noble and Bruery

As mentioned above > BT's BBQ (for food & beer),OG Beachwood BBQ Seal Beach (for more food and beer>sometimes the Elder shows up), Mr Kegs (for bottles/cans), Lows Liquor (for more bottles/cans), Beachwood Brewery HB (just beer), RiiP (beer & boobs) > you got Super Mex next door for good mexican food. If your into good Hawaiian food > go to Dough Doughs.

Asylum isn't bad, better IPA's then next door imo (Bottle Logic), and isn't Tustin brewing co technically OC too? Unless you just meant that specific area.

In retrospect, seeing that I was a few deep when I posted this, I agree. But I don’t care. It does sound like asking a girl if she wants to “cruise back to the dojo”. Fuck it

I also saw someone mention (possibly you before edits) that any “good” stuff in bottleshops is gone within a few hours. I’m not looking for extremely rare stuff, just shit I can’t get in the Midwest. Stuff that is tried-and-true for you guys that I can’t get back home.

I will fully admit my brain translated "easy treats" to mean ****ty girls, so I couldn't help but imagine a conversation that went something like "Me and my boys are heading to the club to find some easy treats we can scoop up" :stuck_out_tongue:

As far as tired and trues, I'd definitely recommend getting some Modern Times while you are out here.

If you go to The Bruery (you should) then stop by Mr. K’s. He has amazing stuff all the time with reasonable prices. That should be the only beer store you need to visit. You can follow them on Instagram too.

I work near Lake Forest. As mentioned above, it doesn't have the most exciting stuff. Dimension Liquor (mentioned above) does have some interesting things but tends to jack up their prices a fair amount too (was in there last week and he was sitting on 15+ cases of BCBS still, which I assume are still there due to the price but didn't ask based on prior experience). If you're just looking for stuff that you can't find in OH (I used to live there and feel your pain re its alcohol laws) then even a big box store like Total Wine may have some things that are new and interesting to you - there is one right off the 405 not far away. For on premise drinking, Urban Grill and Wine Bar in Lake Forest has a (very) small but for the most part well curated beer selection - in particular a lot of Bottle Logic beers that I don't often find readily available at other places.

"Racho" is basically drunk-speak for Rancho Santa Margarita. The full addy for BiB is 22411 Antonio Parkway, Ste C-180

Fortunately the 12% ABV law was lifted well over a year ago! Woohoo!

I'll be in the Fullerton area for a couple of days, looking for some beer/food recs. I have been to almost all of the breweries in the area, and plan to stop in at Green Cheek again for sure, possibly Bottle Logic. Is Noble no longer worth a visit? Was not impressed last time I was there a few months back.

Any other taprooms or places with good food and quality beer selection in the area.
