Hello all, searched around a little and didn't find that much on Orange, MA. Long story short, I need to make a super quick visit to a supplier later this month. I will be flying in on Wednesday March 26 around lunch and need to be at this suppliers place all day Thursday. This gives me Wednesday afternoon/evening to check out places. I have a choice to fly into either Boston or Hartford. Both seem to be about 1-1/2 to 2 hours from Orange. I will fly out either late Thursday or Friday morning. Obviously I will also have a car.

    Thoughts?

I'd like to be able to try a few Jack's Abby brews and maybe pack home a few JA and possibly MBC Lunch & Mo if I can find them. Had any luck putting about 6-8 beers in your checked baggage? Where should I fly into? Any places I need to hit up Wednesday afternoon?

A huge thank you in advance for any replies!!!

I'm not too familiar with that part of the state, however last fall I spent a few days in Greenfield. It's pretty close to Orange. For bottled beer I suggest visiting Ryan & Casey's (http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4782/) They have a great selection and should have Jack's Abby beer. Not sure if they'll have Lunch or Mo. Also in Greenfield is the People's Pint. It's a brewpub with a ton of different styles of beer on tap.

If you have the time, you could take a ride up to Brattleboro, VT. The Brattleboro Coop has a great selection of beers. Although you're not going to find Heady Topper or Lawson beers here, so don't bother asking. The Whetstone Brewpub near the Coop had Hill Farmstead Edward on tap the last time I was there.

If you fly in/out of Boston you'd have a chance to visit the Craft Beer Cellar in Belmont. They would most likely have the beers you're looking for and then some. You could also hit up some Boston/Cambridge pubs if you had the time.

If you fly into Hartford you can hit Table and Vine in West Springfield and depending how you want to get to Orange you can hit http://www.ryanandcaseyliquors.com/ in Greenfield. You may also want to check out The Blind Pig in Athol

Orange is super hurtin' place these days, down&out to say the least. People's Pint or Seymour Pub in Greenfield are closest establishments worth checkin' out for food&drink. Down the street you'll find plenty of JA at Ryan&Casey. I'd go w/ Bradley over Logan, all around easier experience.

    Hartford.

Look in the Places on this site under Northampton, Amherst & Greenfield. IMO the beer bars in Northampton & Amherst are better if you looking to hang out and consume.

I don't know the area but to answer your question about beers in your checked luggage, I flew from San Deigo to Boston last year with about 5-6 bottles and didn't have an issue. Bubble-wrapped each bottle and put in a gallon size zip-loc bag and just pack your clothes around them. Also, when you check it ask for them to put a "fragile" sticker or two on your luggage, jetblue did that for me. Not sure if the people handling your luggage actually care about those stickers but it's worth a shot.

Second on stopping at the Blind Pig. No matter which place you fly into I'd try to hit up Treehouse Brewing on Monson and stop at Yankee Spirits in Sturbridge, by far the biggest bottle shop in that neck of the woods. Treehouse is open 3 days a week including Thursday nights, which is also probably the quietest, easist night there.

A third for The Blind Pig! It is one of the best low-key, hidden gem beer bars in the state, and the owner goes to great efforts to get breweries on tap that beer bars in the much hipper Northampton/Amherst/Greenfield area have never bothered doing the legwork to get (for example they've been known to get Night Shift on tap - unheard of outside 495) Don't miss out!

Also, Stan's Liquor on the Orange-Athol line will have most any regional bottle you could want.

Amherst has two good brewpubs in Amherst Brewing Co, and High Horse. Or there's Greenfield for People's Pint or Seymour. Gardner Ale House is worth a stop if you're passing by on Rt 2.

Thanks to everyone for the reply. Going to try to fly on and out of Hartford. Plenty of choices here to work with.
