I'm doing a Thanksgiving Eve Beer Tasting tonight, and I am going to have 3 categories: Strong Scotch Ales (like Founders Dirty Bastard, Hoppin Frog Outta Kilter, etc.) Belgian Tripels, and doppelbocks. Anyone have input on the order? I generally pour each person about 3 ozs of each beer in the category for a blind tasting. Thanks to all BA's for their input.
I'd probably serve the Doppelbock, then the Tripel, and leave the Scotch Ale for last because the smoked peat could overwhelm the others.
Thanks for you advice, I did go with that order. In case you are interested, the results: Doppelbocks: Spaten came out first, then Ayinger and Troegs tied for second, Full Sail was last. ripels: Riverhorse was suprisingly a clear favorite, followed by Straffe, Maredsous, and Kasteel all close, then La Fin Du Monde, then Allagash, and Westmalle in the cellar (maybe we got a bad bottle) Scotch Ales: Great Divide on top, then Arcadia and one I homebrew for a close second and third, a tie between Terrapin and Alesmith, then Hoppin Frog, and finally Founders Dirty Bastard at the bottom.
