So, I've thought about ordering some Cantillon from Être Gourmet in Europe (I'm in US). Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I going to hit a bump when it comes to US customs and get taxed?

It's very easy and shipping is astoundingly fast. Don't worry about customs or extra taxes or anything.

To optimize shipping, try to get as close to 30 lbs as you can (or a multiple of 30 if you're doing multiple boxes) without going over. I was able to get it down to about $10 shipping per bottle, which isn't horrible.

I definitely recommend it, though I don't plan to place another order (for a while) because of the inevitable shipping costs.

Thanks for the quick reply. That makes me feel better. I've seen people recommend them before but I thought t might be a nightmare on my end. This is good news.

I've ordered from Etre twice. It's fast, easy, and as abraxel said, try to get a little larger box to make shipping worth it. If you're just wondering about customs and taxes or if Etre is reliable/trustworthy, there isn't anything to worry about there. Also get on their email list. They send out emails about once a week with updates so you know when new stuff is available. I typically wait to order until something I'm looking for is back in stock.

I have ordered form Être Gourmet many times. I even had a box destroyed and être gourmet gave me credit for the purchase. In my experience they are top notch.

    Cheers,

Definitely the easiest way to get loons round these parts. As has been said, you have to buy in bulk to make it worth it but at about 10 bottles you are looking at about equivalent shelf prices here in the US. I also got a follow up email about two weeks later just to make sure everything arrived safe and sound.

I've placed three orders from etre gourmet and all three have gone very smoothly. My orders arrived anywhere from five to 13 days from when they were placed. As others said, you just have to experiment a little to see how to max out your order as far as shipping goes.

Im trying to figure out the total cost of a 30lb shipment of expensive beer with $10 a bottle shipping charge. Between $400-$500 is a guestimate. Seems way over my budget.

Etre is great if you wanna drop some coin. To add to what's been said, they are also very communicative by email if you have any questions or problems.

I split a box from Etre with a friend of mine a few months back. It was 12 bottles and a mix of 750s and 375s. The whole thing ran about $300 including shipping. Shipping came out to just about $8 per bottle.

What hurts is when those bottles are only $12 US. I'm very on the fence about an order in the near future

Sorry I would much rather trade with someone than pay $8-10 PER BOTTLE shipping to buy it from a legal online company. I cannot see how that can possibly be worth it, unless you really have the money to blow and don't want the hassle of setting up possibly multiple trades.

I recently sent a 6 bottle shipper of 650ml and 750 ml bottles from Cincinnati to SoCal through Fedex ground and it cost me almost $6 per bottle to ship.

I'll gladly pay the extra $2-4 per bottle for the piece of mind that I'm getting the beer legally and if something happens to the box it will be replaced by the vendor.

Also, show me a member on BA that regularly trades 6-12 Cantillons at a time. Doesn't happen.

You also have to remember that stuff like Cantillon is cheaper on Etre than it is in the U.S. When you factor in shipping, it comes out to be about the same price. Right now they have bottles of Vigneronne for $18 and bottles of Lou Pepe Gueuze for $23. Add $8 to those prices and that's about what you get when you buy them in the U.S. IF you can even find them. A 750 ml bottle of Cantillon Gueuze only runs about $7.50.

Yep, see where the breakpoint is on the shipping by adding bottles until the cost...quadruples

I just placed an order with them for 17 various bottles including 3F's and Cantillons. I ended up with 2X24 lbs boxes. My total for shipping and beer was about $340. So right around $20 a bottle. I will gladly pay that for stuff from overseas.

This and it seems whenever I put out feelers someone wants CBS in return. I just don't have the firepower to get these trades done

People hold on to Cantillon like grim death. Lots of people don't have the ammo to trade for those and other things. Ordering online is the only way lots of people can even get them.
