Anybody know if these guys are any good? I'm thinking of getting a crowler or two for a BIF from the Richland Growler Guys when I'm down there this weekend. Right now they have a couple Ordnance beers listed, with at least one in a style my target likes. I know nothing whatsoever of this brewery and eastern Oregon is pretty underrepresented on BA in general, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
No experience to contribute, except that GG practically throws tasting samples at you upon entry, so you can at least try for yourself before pulling the trigger. And please report back, I wish we saw more than just Barley Brown's from Eastern Oregon.
God, I'd love to try some Barley Brown stuff. I hear there's some sort of brewery in Pendleton as well. The only e. OR beer I've had is Beer Valley and Terminal Gravity. Why isn't there more beer from Eastern Oregon? That side of the state is just weird. I can say that as I was born there (and might be exhibit A for my statement).
TG is readily available (oops, kinda forgot about them ), and BV shows up sporadically. I liked the Prodigal Son stuff a friend brought back a few years ago, and being able to tick Hermiston, 1188, Dragon's Gate, and Mutiny would be nice.
I haven't had ordnance, but I was really impressed with Hermiston brewing Co's Porter. I like GG's, but the samples are pointless to me...you get a tiny pill cup sized shot of foam. C'mon GG, give at least an ounce or two. (Sorta on topic right?)
PS @woemad , not sure if they do crowlers, but this place recently opened. I like how you can grab a pint as well as growlers. Looks like they have at least one ordnance. http://coppertoptaphouse.com/index.html
Holy crap, there's a Hermiston Brewing Co? God, I find Hermiston such a tremendously bland town, maybe they can help it. Pendleton may have had virtually no growth since I was born there, but at least it's got character.
Yeah, but more ounces in samples means less in growlers. Sure, I can't be a ticker and review something in one of GG's samples, but I can usually taste enough to yay or nay, which is what's most important.
Yes, I did sound harsh towards GGs. I really do like them. I've been able to get growlers of stuff in the past that you just can't get - Lagunitas's high westified and Waldo's, Boneyard stuff, Barley Brown's, etc.
Does any Barley Brown stuff hit theTri-Cities? Never seen it here, not sure if they distribute in Washington at all.
I've had their dunkle and was pretty impressed, a good take on a style that's somewhat uncommon in the US. I think I tried one of their IPAs but don't recall what my impression was.
I'm in EO. Barley Browns of course is awesome. Dragon's Gate is really good. Terminal Gravity is an old stand-by and kind of outdated, but there have been some changes and more experimenting recently, and is a fun place to visit. Prodigal Son is decent. 1188 is decent. Beer Valley is ok. I haven't liked much at all from Ordinance or Hermiston Brewing. Mutiny is closed. Mount Emily Alehouse is closed. Breweries mentioned are in rank from 1st to last and this is like, my opinion man.
Richland growler guys got a pallet Jack keg a while back. Very rare. Definitely not a regular occurrence. Came in at the same time as boneyard. However, boneyard kegs keep showing and not BB.
We have limited distribution in Washington, Alpha Distributing in Vancouver & Kent sells our beer in WA. Brews Taphouse in Pasco buys some kegs on occasion as does a few places in Yakima (Mostly during Hops Growing season). It's a short drive to Baker City and I hear there's a place on the corner of Main and Church that has 20 - 30 Barley Brown's Beers on tap. The Eastern Oregon Beer Festival in LaGrande Oregon on June 18th will have beer from most of the breweries in Eastern Oregon.
