Hello, The wife and I were planning a 2 week tour of Oregon this summer, but because of my job we could not do it this year. So I want to put together a beer tour of Oregon gift for her as a cheer me up type thing. The idea is the get ahold of breweries we were planning on going to, and/or one from every area we were going. I've broken down each region and Breweries I would be interested in getting ahold of. - I'm not familiar with the scene there, so maybe some of these breweries don't bottle. Let me know if I'm way off course. - Not necessarily looking for one-offs, rarities, specialties, or vintage, that said if there is a "must have" I would look into it. - If you have suggestions let me know. - Looking to have it put together by the end of July. Let me know if there are MN/Midwest beers you would like to get ahold of. I'll start looking around. Thanks for any help with this little project. Coast Pelican de Garde Portland Area Hair of the Dog Cascade HUB Willamette Ninkasi Southern Caldera Others? Central Boneyard Eastern Barley Brown Others? Mt. Hood Full Sail Logsdon
I don't believe Boneyard is packaging at all yet, but everything else on your list is easy-peasy to get. Good luck, Cheers!
Other than Belmont Black, Barley Brown's doesn't package anything either. However, you could probably go to Growler Guys on any random day and get growlers of something from both of them.
I'm trying to get an idea of what kind of rout you intend. If you are going through Corvallis then stop in at Block 15 If you are going through McMinville Then Heater Allen is a must. From what you have so far it appears the you are going to skip the entire Oregon Coast after Tillamook (Not much beer on the coast but the scenery is world class)
Yeah, OP had to cancel a physical visit, so he wants to create a virtual visit. Most of his list should be easy trades/on-line purchases.
I'm out of the trading game, so I can't help you procure any of these, but here's my list of suggestions for breweries that bottle or can: Coast Ft George Buoy de Garde Portland Area Hair of the Dog Commons Breakside Heater Allen Willamette Block 15 Southern Caldera (Mogli is awesome, but I wouldn't bother with anything else) Central Crux Eastern Nada Mt. Hood pFriem Logsdon As others have pointed out, Barley Brown's and Boneyard don't package their beers, but they're often on at growler stations. There are a few places that do counter pressure fills and one place that does crowlers (though they usually only have one beer available at a time, so good luck tracking down a crowler of a specific beer). Both brewers do amazing stuff that is well worth tracking down if you can. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the help, I have adjusted my list accordingly. Got to find something from that Eastern section. I'll look into the a pressure fill. I've posted on a few sites and it looks like people might be able to get those. But seriously thanks for all the help. I should have been posting on this site long ago.
10 Barrel is another Central/Eastern OR. Not sure if they've expanded distribution out to the MN area after the buy-out. Deschutes is another Central/Eastern OR, though they may distribute there already. Not sure if it's easy to get the specialty one's out there (Black Butte Anniversary (XXVII is due out next month), Jubel '14, Abyss, etc.)
Deschutes is readily available out here or they would have made the list. They are far and away my wife's favorite brewery.
Another one for Central is Sun River. Their Vicious Mosquito IPA is awesome. Silver Moon's Maui Wowee is a good one. Bend Brewing's Ching Ching, too. All bottles, but Maui Wowee is random. As for Barley Browns, you might be able to get a bomber of Belmont Black that they did for Belmont Station.
Eastern Oregon could also be represented by Laht Neppur. They were based in Eastern WA, but are opening a brewery in Milton Freewater. Not outstanding, but they bottle.
My list is pretty similar to eatabagofbooger's. Portland: Breakside [The Milwaukie Brewery has much more on tap as well as bottle sales] Cascade The Commons Hair of the Dog Upright Astoria Buoy Fort George Tillamook De Garde Corvallis Block 15 Pacific City Pelican Bend The Ale Apothecary [Brewery closed to public - Tasting Room to open soon] Crux Fermentation Project Hood River Logsdon Farmhouse Ales [Brewery closed to public - Tasting Room to open soon] pFriem
In addition to Ninkasi in Eugene, also try Hop Valley and Falling Sky. All have a good selection of craft beers.
