Hey everyone- I'll be in Indianapolis for a few days beginning Sept. 12. I'll have one full day (Sunday) and then get out of conferences at 4:30 on Monday and Tuesday. I'll be directly downtown at the Hilton Garden Inn. So. What do I need to seek out beer wise especially and sights otherwise (no car).Based on my research it looks like most places will have 3F on tap, as well as Bells Two Hearted and maybe Founders All Day (all beers I've heard lots about but not had). Also, I could be convinced to check a bag and bring some De Garde along... Thanks everyone! Andrew Mattingly Astoria, OR
Your hotel is 1 1/2 blocks from Tomlinson Tap room in the City market (222 Market St). They have only Indiana brew on tap. Would be great to go after your conference ends as they are not open on Sunday. If you are looking for bottles, then you are 2 blocks from Crown liquors (Ohio and Delaware)-Again not open on Sundays. If you are willing to take a cab or Uber to Broad Ripple, HopCat and Twenty tap also have great tap lists. There are other places around your area, but would be a long walk.
If you want some food downtown I would say try Scotty's Brewhouse downtown. It's not super craft-centric, but they always have good food and a decent beer selection. It has been about 2 years since I have been there though. I highly recommend trying an Indiana delicacy there in the breaded tenderloin. I can't find them anywhere since I have moved and Scotty's is very good.
Food - if you are looking for a beer-oriented food spot, walk up to Mass Ave., NE of downtown, and hit up Bru, a very nice burger place with a short, but extremely well-curated beer list. A couple years ago, I had a W00tStout there, and they often have a number of solid local options.
Thanks all- sounds like my research has paid off- was able to find Bru, Tomlinson, and Crown on my own- will definitely hit up Scottys for the tenderloin. Sounds like tenderloins is the "Indiana" thing.
For what it's worth, Tuesday is $3.50 pint day at Twenty Tap and The Aristocrat in south Broad Ripple - maybe a 15 minute uber from your hotel - and they both have great tap lists.
