The wife and I are visiting LI this weekend and will be taking the ferry to Orient Point then driving to Westhampton. Last year we stopped at Greenharbor in their original location and they were just about to open up the new location. Is the newer locationworth a visit? Are there better breweries on the way to Westhampton? Im also looking for bottle shops along the way, hoping for some good suggestions. Thanks for the help folks! Side note: I have some Julius cans if anyone can get my hands on some Other Half cans. Cheers!
You have a couple options. Riverhead beverage is a half decent bottle shop, its not the best but they have a good selection. The best shop nearby is Bellport beer and soda, its not terribly far but definitely out of the way going to Westhampton. If you havent had anything by singlecut, they just bottled one of their better DIPAs, Bon Bon. Riverhead might have it, bellport definitely does. The new Greenport location in peconic is fairly modern. I haven't actually been inside, but its certainly pretty on the outside, lots of glass that lets you see straight into the brew floor. I like the charm of the old firehouse at the original location. As for other breweries, downtown riverhead now has 3. Long Ireland, Moustache, and Crooked ladder. The first two are definitely worth the stops, you could skip crooked ladder. Also since you are taking the ferry from New london, you could stop at Beerd brewing in Stonington just a few miles east on 95/rt1. I havent been but ive heard great things from my buddy. Theres also southhampton publick house, not my favorite brewery, but its there. And finally since you are in Westhampton you should go to Brewology, they have a solid tap selection and good food. Pricey, but worth a stop. Lastly, theres an OH can release Saturday morning (Citra, Cascade and All Green Everything) I was hoping to go but doesnt look like its going to happen, which is too bad cause my buddy in Boston can't stop talking about Julius.
Thanks for the tips, I will definitely hit up Riverhead! The wife is pregnant so I dont think the trip out of the way to Bellport will be happening. Since this is a college reunion for my wife's roomates, I may have to convince the guys to go for a drive Saturday afternoon when we get thristy. PS. Im hoping some Other Half can make it up to Mass for a few trades. Their beer sounds incredible! BM if interested in a trade for Julius and/or Bissell.
