I could buy one of these, but I have never had a beer even close to this age. Has anyone had one of theses old bottles?, if so how was it, and would it be worth $30 to try?

I think you can add the price of these to expensive bottle thread.

Could be great -- Courage is known to age very, very well, certainly for over 20 years. Not sure about 29, but it's worth a shot. As for $30, I'm guessing it won't taste worth it no matter how good it is.

I found a 1980 Courage opened in the last few months to be oxidised. Interesting to try, but didn't taste sublime by any means.

As for $30, well in US terms, it isn't going to be 3 x better than a 4 pack of Rasputin...but there's always other ways to justify beer purchases:slight_smile:

Get a couple friends to go in on it, at least three, four if possible, then share it. That way you are each only out $10 or less, it will sting less if it's a total drain pour, & you get to share the experience of a very aged beer together. Just my $0.02

Most recent one I opened was a '62 and it was drinking very well... shared a pre-WWII bottle with some folks at Woodshop and I even liked that. It's going to be flat and oxidized... but there's really nothing like old B-P/Courage RIS.

That's my B-day, so I would love to get one. Let me know if you'd want to make a trade for some!

I had an '83 in 2008 at De Kulminator and it was pretty good. Had another similar vintage in 2010 at the former Tap and Table in Emmaus PA and wasn't impressed.
