On Monday October 22, 2012, Oskar Blues will finally be distributed to the great state of Ohio (as well as 3 other new distribution states). I'm very excited about this since I've always had to go into PA to get these beers. Dales, Deviant Dales, G'Night, and TEN FIDY have been on the radar of many of my fellow Buckeye BAs and now the wait is over. Just to make it clear, I don't think this will be like the great Yuengling invasion of a few years ago. When it comes down to it, Yuengling sucks but the adventure of having to go to our eastern neighbors to "smuggle" Yuengling back into Ohio was always fun and people were always like "WOW, where did you get that!!! I want some!!", however that quickly dissipated and now Yuengling is just a classier version of the BMCs of the world. On the other hand, Oskar Blues is well under the radar of many Ohioans. People always knew the name of Yuengling prior to its arrival here however Oskar Blues is not as well known, likely due to it's brewing in Colorado, which, last time I checked, is not considered a neighbor of ours. For all of you that aren't in the know, Oskar Blues is responsible for bringing craft beers into cans. Dale's Pale Ale is the most sold canned six pack in the United States...that's impressive given the fact that they don't even sell it in every state like they do the BMCs (etc). TEN FIDY may be one of the most popular Impy Stouts anywhere, at least of the Impy Stouts that are available regularly. And, if you're one of those people who turn their nose up to canned craft beers (not likely given that BAs that are reading this know their sh*t), you're crazy...aside from Oskar Blues, Heady Topper is canned and is easily one of the most sought after IPAs anywhere. Same goes with Sixpoint, New Belgium Fat Tire and others. Speaking of which, New Belgium is coming to Ohio soon as well. Can't wait to see Ranger IPA on the shelves. If you're a fellow Buckeye and you haven't experienced OB, do yourself a favor and get it when it arrives next week. Cheers andrew
Can't wait to be able to find Ten Fidy on the shelves, world class and so good with a year+ on it. Can't agree with OP more!
Old news, check the Great Lakes forum. http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/anything-new-coming-to-ohio.40656/#post-518992 http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/oskar-blues-moving-into-ohio.42394/#post-532893 And take a breath, dude!
I still cant believe that OB isnt in OH. Never really realized that they werent in OH before I moved to NC from OH. Down here, Oskar Blues is like mainstream craft, and Ten FIDY sits amongst other world class stouts on shelves. God bless our stores!
